Lane to Auburn - Maybe🤣

He should do good there but it's definitely a rebuild. He should be able to get a better talent pool than Ole Miss where he hasn't done bad considering it's Ole Miss. Curious if Auburn will up their NIL game now especially with trying to get portal guys.

Kiffin is Dan Mullen 2.0. Good x and o guy that is an average recruiter.
Bingo. Said that the other day. Great play caller & OC but not a good recruiter. Best fit for guys like that are exactly where they have had some success (mid-tier power 5 programs). I never wanted Kiffin. Good coach but not a long term solution and doesn’t recruit well enough long term.

If you want to compete and win championships in the SEC you have to recruit like a madman to even have a chance. Even more so now with Texas and Oklahoma coming into the league.

FWIW - Mike Farrell

"...Lane Kiffin is one of the top college coaches currently and leads Ole Miss to a top offense each year. Could Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss? Personally, I think this rumor is hilarious. Lane Kiffin built Ole Miss into an SEC West contending team in just a few years, and leaving now would make no sense. Unlike Ole Miss, Auburn is second fiddle when it comes to football in the state of Alabama, making recruiting against their in-state rival harder than at Ole Miss, which easily laps Mississippi State on the recruiting trail. Many experts believe Coach Kiffin is waiting for the Alabama job once Coach Saban retires and if that is true, taking the Auburn job ruins any chance he currently has at that. I believe Coach Kiffin declines Auburn and leads Ole Miss for years to come. " ?

EDIT
I think Lane's longest HC tenure was the 3 years he spent at USCw before getting fired on airport runway / parking lot.
LOL

To be more clear - that wasn't a rip on Kiffin either. Hell - I still love the Mullen hire lol. That guy was one helluva x and o guy...so it's a compliment to Kiffin, of sorts.

He's just not the total package some of his fanboys like to act he is.

I can already see the Kiffin conversation with Auburn. On Kiffin's end it will be whether the boosters are going to buy enough talent or not as Kiffin has publicly pressed that with Ole Miss and did get them active in the portal.

I will say if Kiffin had an NIL situation like the top schools with that I think he would be in the playoff even as its currently set up in just a couple of years.

Meet The Richest Man In Alabama, Jimmy 'Yella Fella' Rane

Today Rane's Great Southern Wood does $770 million in annual revenue. The Yella Fella serves as its CEO and owns 100% of the company.

Working for The Yella Fella - Asst Athletic Director for McDonalds Bags - Jimmy Rane - would not be my idea of fun.

In his commercials, he comes across as folksy & low key; doubt he is that way in real life when he is paying the bills.

Auburn trustee Jimmy Rane denies booster involvement in Bryan Harsin investigation, football decisions

The most famous Auburn booster of this generation, trustee Jimmy Rane, claims to have had no role in the internal probe that almost got Harsin fired after his first season, or in future decisions.

"Trustees don't hire and fire football coaches. We hire and fire presidents.

Who hires & fires the AD who hires & fires the Coaches.

Simple. Really Simple ! LOL

So I'm not aware of any role the trustees played in that at all,"

Pressed about Auburn's longtime reputation, Rane rejected the notion that boosters meddle backstage in the affairs of the athletics department.

"I don't know how to help people with their perception," he said. "All I know is facts. And there's enough rumor out there that people can make up anything they want to make up, but facts speak for themselves, and that's just how things are done."

Those people are beyond ridiculous. They way they tried to back door Wingnut with Petrino and now the Harsin thing. First it was Bobby Lowder doing all the meddling., now it’s this guy. That place is as dysfunctional as it comes.

And? He'll forever finish 3rd in the west (at best) forever and never win anything. He's not an elite recruiter. I mean if that's a great coach, keep him. He's Mullen 2.0 - if that's what you want, go for it.
What I want? I’m pretty sure I’m good with Kang Kirby. But Kiffin isn’t trash.

Well Lane finished 8-4 after losing tonight. Good coach & good offensive coach but again reminds me very much of a Dan Mullen. He doesn’t recruit well enough and isn’t really a long term answer if you want a coach to build a program.

I just can't believe we didn't get Kiffin. I mean, Gator fans would love to be in year 3 of a rebuild and finish 4th in our own division.

His best win this is yr is maybe Troy? Ole Miss was the most over rated team in the country. Got juiced up in the rankings because they are in the SEC west but they get beat by every team with a pulse.

Most overrated award goes to a west team but it’s not them.

People are underrating Kiffin some imo. If he has equal talent he can produce. If you switched him and Jimbo out he would be winning an SEC championship. I did like the Pirate winning that game though as I thought they might blow it at the end there.

One of his many problems is he can't produce equal talent. Even if he were at A&M, he'd be no better than the coach who preceded Sumler, whoever that was.
Mike Sherman, that's who preceded Sumler.

It's Ole Miss though and besides a couple of years Freeze was cheating his butt off pre-NIL they struggle with recruiting usually. It will be interesting if he does go to Auburn and they are willing to open the NIL check book.

Might be a better reason for Saban to hang around at Bama for another 10+ years just to keep owning Kiffin.
