Lol Can't believe he is coming out and actually saying that. Must be trying to put pressure on Ole Miss boosters to get the money flowing on NIL.

It does seem to be working for Texas A&M and Texas right now. I hope we are competitive with this.

Portal + NIL is guaranteed free agency.

From a coaching standpoint how do you get players who came into a university with nothing but dollar signs in mind to buy into your methods, culture, and discipline?

It used to be that they needed to let go of the individual and become a team. Now the individual is first and foremost in NIL.

Bama and UGA won’t have that problem due to an overabundance of talent, but others will.

What will happen when a recruit with a million dollar endorsement starts to miss those “voluntary” summer workouts? Or just showing up once a day to two a days? How long before a corporation has a say in how many hours their client spends on homework vs practice vs generating revenue for them? How long before those corporations have a say in when a player plays or sits out as it may be bad for business? Who wouldn’t want their investment to shine in an upcoming championship game therefore sitting him out vs a team like Vandy a couple weeks before?

Those paying the bills will call the shots. College coaches will no longer have autonomy over their programs if they want any kind of talented player.

Much of this is correct and at this point they’re not putting this genie back in the bottle.

Collegiate sports has turned into the pro leagues now. These kids are going to be paid mercenaries.

It is a crazy situation and just like the MLB draft and NFL draft the very top ranked high school recruits will expect to be paid quite a bit to sign with the schools now despite there being a good chance they won't live up to the hype.

I might be off on the details here but I think A&M has some crazy mess they are trying to pull where boosters are somehow paying the bill for these players to do paid advertising for local businesses that aren't even their own business. Texas is supposedly trying some non-profit setup or something crazy like that where the players would be paid to promote charities while the donors would even get a tax break on some of the money they are giving.

better than being mercenaries for free

The deal used to be 11 games and a bowl, everyone done by Jan 1.

Now we exploit them for 15 games on a playoff that makes billions.

If people didn’t see this coming when we
Moved toward a playoff, I don’t know what to tell you.

That Supreme Court ruling on NIL has totally changed things. Except for maybe Jackson State (lol) this coming season it appears most of the schools that were already recruiting well seem to be trying to stay on top with this. Much of this will be money that the boosters aren't getting a good return on financially. Heck some of these boosters seem to be trying to find ways to do it without having the kids name attached to their actual business (I can see why some might not want to risk that with certain players). The big question is do the UF big boosters want to be up there with these other schools big boosters in doing what it might take now.

You know the saying nowadays, "Scared money don't make money."

I’m not opposed to kids getting paid, but why do we continue with the fiction that these are serious students with real ties to a school?

It’s time to drop the “student athlete” fiction and just start a real minor league for these guys. Let colleges go back to the days where student athletes were required to be legit students.

Is he imitating Nick Saban? He has the Coke bottle up there and watch his hand motions. It's a dead on Nick imitation.

Well I laughed with my buddy (who's an Alabama fan) watching the Napier presser because of all the hand movements and "aights" that he was doing.

Some of that stuff rubs off on you when you're around people.

Exactly. Why does everybody have their panties in a bunch about NIL? Because now players are getting paid in the open? NCAA football has been professional for decades. Get over it.
Wish the supreme court didn't rule that way myself but I guess we will see next class if our boosters will match the teams that are just creating ways to pay them now even if its not a good business return.
