Kelly to UCLA - 5 Years

Not surprising the Kelly camp sounded scared of the SEC and he wanted the least challenging position.

The cow-Chips always lay down flat in the tall grass,,, it's just what they do.... o_O

And what I'm glad about, is that the Gators didn't step in it this time...

Frost was my 1st (but now unlikely - Neb) choice.
Norvell
Campbell
Unknown Others

Both are good coaches, but a rough UF fit due to past internal friction.
Mullen
Strong

Long Shot -- Phat-Phil??? :D

This whole thread sucks. For once--in how many weeks already?--the "report" was more official than just "reportedly-agree".

So where on ITG was that official announcement by UCLA that they hired Chip? You know, the 1 thing that is genuine confirmed news, but we practically never see posted here on ITG? Hey-ell, the link was right there in the 1st sentence of the already-linked BR article by Timothy Rapp! So 1 day later, has the official announcement by UCLA already been posted or linked? Nooo!

UCLA Bruins (inexplicably undated) said:
UCLA Names Chip Kelly New Head Football Coach
In 4 seasons, Kelly coached Oregon to a 46-7 record and 3 conference championships. [....]
<http://www.uclabruins.com/news/2017/11/25/ucla-names-chip-kelly-new-head-football-coach.aspx>

Sensibly followed on ITG by any replies that are about Chip and only about Chip, whether about manipulating U(F)AA, prospects for creating championship football teams at UCLA, panic in the Pac-12, fear of the challenges of the SEC, Yankee bigotry against the South, &c. But about no other coaches at all!

But nooo! The increasingly demented mob here just turns it into off-topic bull-manure sling-fest about every other football personality who they think might be eager, or agreeable, or toleraant of being signed by UF. All with practically no proof--as usual: It's become a complete waste of time.

Hey-ell, if I were to start a thread about Vladimir Putin dying (there's not even such a rumor in genuine news, but why let that stop me on ITG?), and within half-a-dozen replies, the thread would metastasize to yet another ITG free-for-all about who should become the UF football head-coach, but just repeating criticism, praise, and preferences that've already been posted in other threads! As if there aren't already enough ITG threads about it. It's effin' lunacy, except without a full moon in the night sky!

We'd all be better off here in ITG if our sole survivingModerator ‘passoverGator’ would take prompt action:
lock all ITG threads,
block any new ITG threads, and
• take a few-weeks vacation in some earthly paradise that's free from Internet service and U.S. sports-news.

It's going to be interesting what Frost decides. His wife is from Scottsdale, AZ & Arizona St. just fired their coach. His parents, from what I read, have recently moved to Orlando and love it there. And of course he's a Nebraska alum. So he's got a lot of options and, just like Kelly, it won't be necessarily where he can get the most money or have the best potential to recruit and win championships. It's going to be where is the best fit for him and his family, where they really want to spend the next several years of their lives. I'm hoping it's Gainesville, but it seems to be a long shot. If not him, then I really don't have a good feel for who the next best guy would be. In my gut, just don't think Strong would work out.

I can’t help it, I like Charlie and I think he can make it work.

I’ll say it again.

Defensive mind. That’s a huge negative.

Had his shot at a major program and it went even more disastrously than I expected.

What he’s shown is that he’s good and comfortable at mid-tier schools with low expectations. That seems to be his mentality (probably part of the reason he stayed as an assistant for so many years).

And seriously. Don’t trust someone that buttons the top button of his polo.

That’s psychotic.

What specifically is wrong with Charlie?
Nothing specifically. I've posted my thoughts before. Strong was a great assistant coach at UF (88-89, 91-94, 03-09), a great head coach at Louisville and will do fine at USF. Texas was a bust and I'm not sure why. He seems like a great guy and a solid recruiter. My thinking is that Florida, at this point in time, needs an innovative offensive guy and a big splash hire, maybe even someone younger. Charlie is 57. I think it's going to be Dan Mullen, not a huge splash and maybe not one many fans will like initially, but he's only 45, an innovative offensive guy with a proven record of success as HBC in the SEC with talent generally not as good as other teams.
