What I would say most of you would benefit from is to disabuse yourself of considerations of morality or ethics. There are no good guys vs. bad guys. Everybody is just doing what they can get away with. And that’s fine. That’s human history. You can argue against it, but you’re arguing against human nature. But what a rational actor should be evaluating is risk vs reward. And there is huge risk here that we get pulled into two decades of attempted occupation for no upside!
When we tried this with Iraq, we were not energy independent. We are now. We don’t buy any oil from Iran. We don’t need their oil. And as we saw with Iraq it is impossible to occupy an Arab country half a world away! It ain’t happening. We’ve seen this. So it is huge downside and cost, which we absolutely cannot afford. To eliminate a negligible threat.
It makes no sense.
