Report: Ducks have offered ‘massive’ contract extension to Mario Cristobal
There are now reports that Oregon has offered Mario Cristobal a contract extension that is "in line with what we've seen" for Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly.www.yahoo.com
Cristobal is a great recruiter. Problem is he can’t coach worth a lick IMO. Now competition in the ACC isn’t that tough so he’s have that going for him but it isn’t exactly tough in the PAC-12 either. He’d be a much bigger thorn in the side of an FSU then a UF but again I’m just not sure how good of a coach he is.
Possibly yes. Although IMO at least I already think Mario can’t coach against the big boys. Napier it is a wait and see. Mario couldn’t even coach at the G5 level as he got fired from FIU and the only reason why he got the Oregon job is because Taggart left late and it was just an easy transition to make him the HC.I actually compare Napier to Mario until he proves he can “coach” against the big boys or turn over to an OC who can. I see the two as very similar

How do you know we chose the Mario route over coaching? I think that is TBD. Mario couldn’t hack it at a G5 school as he got fired at FIU. What did Mario ever do to deserve the Oregon job to begin with? I know why he got the Oregon job and it wasn’t because of his coaching. He’s just another Ron Zook/Will Muschamp IMO. Honestly I don’t want a coach that can’t even win at the G5 level. And again Cristobal is an Oline guy. I just don’t want an Oline guy as a head coach. Napier at least has won big where he’s at. Time will tell if it works out at a P5 school for him.I am not ready to say we hired another Mario.
But as reports surface we chose not to even talk to BK or Lincoln, Stricklin better hope Billy isn’t Mario. And once Mario hits SoFla its going to make recruiting tough.
IMO we chose the Mario route over coaching and now we live with it. And if this fails we have no one to blame but ourselves

Riley is a very good coach and would be great at UF but as we have now seen Lincoln doesn’t want anything to do with the SEC. I think Kelly is a good coach but would he be a good fit here? I’m not sure he’s an SEC guy. Again while I do think he’s a good coach him at LSU could be very interesting.
Of course it will be tough. UF is in the SEC it isn’t easy sledding. But at least Napier has won at the G5 level. Mario couldn’t even do that. I was saying from Day 1 after Mullen got fired that I didn’t want to see Cristobal anywhere near UF. The guy just can’t coach and doesn’t know how to run a program.Paco, you are saying what I have said. All I am saying is Napier will be forced to prove he is what he is. Without a quality OC I think we look again in 3 years. Time will tell. But Mario will balance recruiting and BK will balance coaching so he better be ready. Road ahead is tough
Miami is in a real tough spot now. Fire a crappy coach just to hire another crappy coach (cause he has UM ties)He needs to take the job cause Utah is beating the sh!t out of Oregon and remember Utah is our first game next year.

Wether its tough or not sounds like he is getting $8 million / yr to come.
let the recruiting war begin
Norvell better up his game
That sucks. Will make it a little harder to get the top recruits from down there.
You two are peas in a pod lol.
Napier hasn't had his press conference yet and as far as I know, Mario hasn't officially taken the Miami job and you guys are already panicking about things.
Either of you care to bring up positive things about Napier?
What are you talking about I said I was fine with Napier and think I said he was my 2nd choice of the realiistic candidates to Kiffin. You get confused when pegging things on me it seems.
Nope. Mario isn't even the head coach at Miami and here you are sitting with Michi boo hoping about how it's going to make it hard to recruit south Florida now.
Dudes not even the coach yet and my goodness here we go again.
It's your thing.
Some of the media is reporting he is taking the job but no I can't say myself he is taking it.
As of an hour ago he hasn't taken it and Oregon is working on an extension.
But Michi hears it and panicked me and you just follow the gospel.
Can we maybe get through the presser and see some coach hires and recruiting play out over the next couple of weeks?
Napier is a much better coach/program builder and recruiter than Mac. That doesn’t mean Napier is going to kick ass but on the surface he’s a better hire than Mac.I remember the same mantra about Mac. That went well.
And you admitted yourself you aren’t sold on this.

I think all things can be discussed. Just saying I think it will make it a little harder to get the top recruits down there if he has came to a deal with them.

No. I'm not sold. But I'm interested to see what the next steps are.
Heard Saban speak very highly of him on Thursday or Friday. His record at UL is much better than anything Mac did at Colorado State.
Now if I start hearing that he's handing out gum, yelling about mid lines, dabbling in bbq sauce, obsessing over Luke Del Rio while shunning Will Grier, jumping sharks, or shrugging his humped-back shoulders over shoe throwing, then I will begin to be concerned.
Well in one sense he is already a win as he refused to come if we wouldn’t provide him the off-field staff to structure a massive recruiting operation. So pass or fail, he already is improving UF.

I think that also shows that the "modern boosters don't care about Florida football" thing is a myth.
Everything we've seen so far in this process is that the boosters are sick of the on-field products of the last decade and are ready to open the checkbooks.
Yup.
These guys with all the money are obviously smart and finally must realize the structure behind the scenes has to change of they want on field results.
But it sounds like his off-field staff is going to be significantly larger than anything we have had in the past.
Believe it opens summer of 22Yep. And our new facility opens this month, right? So he's coming into a great situation from the get go.

Strickland said in an interview the day of the FSU game that he wanted someone young who could build the program from the ground up and lay the ground work for the future. Napier had not even been announced as HBC at that point, not until the next day. I remember hearing the same stuff about Urban Meyer coming from Utah, "the spread won't work in the SEC, his schemes won't win big boy football, never coached a P5 team, etc etc". A lot of us were skeptical, I wanted SOS back, some wanted Stoops, and so on. That worked out fine, until Urban mentally burnt out and checked out. There are no guarantees that were just waiting to be ushered into Gainesville, and there's only one Saban.Lots of changes behind the scenes coming in regards to support staff and stuff we as fans don’t see.
I actually thought Manny was turning Miami around. Had fixed the culture in the locker room and had the players playing hard for him. I think it's a huge mistake for Miami. Mario doesn't impress me at all.Miami is in a real tough spot now. Fire a crappy coach just to hire another crappy coach (cause he has UM ties)
I’d be curious to hear why you say that. They were 8-3 last year and went 7-5 this year. Not only that they just lost to FSU a few weeks ago. I agree that Mario doesn’t impress but I do think he is a step up from Manny.I actually thought Manny was turning Miami around.
