Our playoff hopes are done. Alabama looks to be the best team in America. We are a year or two away from being at that level. Our roster was severely depleted after Mac. This isn't an excuse for Dan losing to a very mediocre LSU team, but it was always going to be a longer process to get where we have been then most of us would have liked. An upset would be awesome, heck I'd be happy with a close game. Congrats to LSU for showing up, they really co
At this point I am thinking the only reason we had playoff hopes was COVID.
What I mean is, we had the veteran offense coming back while most teams weren't able to pull the defense together for the new season for several weeks. We looked amazing on offense for the first few weeks because the defenses were so far behind in their normal prep. But (and I know I'm not the only one to see this) the defenses have been slowly catching up to us all season long.
Don't get me wrong, this would still have been a really good offense in any year, but not great. Teams that could stop the run and get pressure are giving us trouble, it's just that nobody could do that the first half of the season.
And I won't lie, our defense has gotten better as well as the season has moved on, for the same reasons others have. Practice time. But I look at other defenses, and I see players working together, playing with discipline, GETTING LINED UP, and I don't see that with us so much. This is my criticism with Grantham, and has been for years. The defense is disorganized and undisciplined and never adjusts (how many slant passes did LSU throw last night?). We need to get somebody in here who can teach them their assignments, get them lined up timely, and call the proper defense based on what the offense is doing.
I'm just concerned that Mullen and he are buddies and that is going to protect him.
