It’s a trap being set up by the media. They point blank ask if he’ll step down, and if he says yes the headlines the next day are “Trump Concedes He Will Lose to Biden”.
If he says anything other than “yes” partisans like yourself call him a dictator and a threat to Democracy.
He’s a lot of things, most of which are cringy at best, but he isn’t dumb and he knows the media’s game.
So what he said was if the election was fair he’d step down, if there’s cheating he’s going to fight. If you’ve been paying attention, he’s in the White House because he’s the first Republican in forever who isn’t a giant pussy. So this is really the only answer he can give and stay true to a key principle that got him elected in the first place.
If he loses tonight (or this week), and/or wins four more years, when the time comes he’ll exit stage left...rest assured.
The problem with your scenario is that he, and his gullible supporters, have already laid the groundwork for disputing the election results. Have you not seen the posts in here and on the right wing forums.
He has no idea if it’s fair. But he knows, in his heart, that if he loses then it must be unfair.

On the other hand - surely you can understand why people might feel a little suspicious...
1) Main in vote effort was largely a Democrat-pushed effort - all that needed to happen was expansion of absentee rules in several states
2) PEW Research has solid documentation that the voter rolls are full of junk
3) PA has allowed improper postmarked, no signature verification ballots to be counted up to 7 days after the election (I mean c'mon, you've had a month to early vote or mail it in...)
4) The PA AG blatantly said yesterday "if all the votes are counted Trump will lose"...WTF does that mean?
I don't think every state is as suspicious, but if it comes down to PA you know this is going to be messy. And maybe it should be. We should all want to know the election process is clean and fair, and PA has muddied the fvck out of those waters.

I would like to see this election won w/o the Pa. electoral votes being necessary for the winner. In that way, the election would be a lot calmer.
