Strong sure caught lightning in a bottle when he landed Teddy Bridgewater. Some people just aren't cut out to be head coaches. Case in point, Charley Strong and Will Muschamp. Awesome defensive coordinators. Head coaches, not so much.

See I didn't even know what the injury was. It was ankle? That's terrible. He reminds me of Brodie Croyle, Brodie was severely injury prone as well. That was a nasty injury Tua suffered that I didn't even bother to watch the replay the same reason I refuse to watch Sid Vicious break his leg in a match with Scott Steiner, back in the late 90's, I believe. I sure as hell didn't watch the replay CBS kept playing over and over with Tyrone Prothro's injury vs UF in 2005.
Yep, I think Kirby and Sark are great examples of this, Kiffin as well. All are capable of being decent head coaches, but they could be all-world coordinators. Some people just aren't cut out to be head coaches. Case in point, Charley Strong and Will Muschamp. 4 words. Show me the money.Yep, I think Kirby and Sark are great examples of this, Kiffin as well. All are capable of being decent head coaches, but they could be all-world coordinators.
I mean I get it, egos being egos it's easy to want to say you are a head coach. But I dunno.....do you want to be a head coach for 15 years and win half your games or be an elite coordinator and win 2-3 NC rings? I'd rather have the rings.
I don't even think the money is that big of an issue. Take someone who is an elite OC, will he make more at Florida as OC, or at Duke as head coach?4 words. Show me the money.![]()
The last QBs that showed true progression at Bama were Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron. Their OC was, ironically, Jim McElwain.
Check his stats in 2010. He completed 70% of his passes and was statistically one of the better QBs in the nation.McElroy was a lot of play action passes that were pretty open from that running game no one could hardly stop.
If Saban wanted to bring McElwain back as OC, I'd love it.Check his stats in 2010. He completed 70% of his passes and was statistically one of the better QBs in the nation.
Having said that, I don't think McElwain really did a good job of developing the QB as much as he put them in better situations, which was kinda your point. Kiffin is a master at designing plays that make his playmakers look good,If Saban wanted to bring McElwain back as OC, I'd love it.
As head coach? No chance in hell.
Oh hell, Trent Richardson had a hard time deciding which one of his OL to follow as he ended up in the secondary.McElroy was a lot of play action passes that were pretty open from that running game no one could hardly stop.
