First, I love the kid. He is a warrior. A real trooper who has been under duress a lot this season. It will probably get worse the next 3 games. That being said, it seems as if Mertz has locked in on one receiver from the beginning lately, for the most part. During the game yesterday, numerous folks were posting this guy was open and that guy was open. It seems Mertz didn’t give them a looks at all. I remember seeing some guys wide open while watching on TV. Maybe he’s become a bit gun shy. Don’t know. I guess the same could be asked about his check offs. Is he making the correct ones? Putting us in better or worse play and blocking calls? Again I don’t know.
Maybe Billy knows all this. He Doesn’t seem the kind of coach to throw individual players under the bus. And I’m not saying that Mertz is the key to our issues. It’s goes FAR deeper than this.
Anyway, would love to hear some thoughts from smarter folks than me.
