According to reports, Gordon had been playing football at Dunedin then tried out for the basketball team just to keep busy. Gordon graduated from Dunedin and will take a prep year at South Kent in Connecticut.
During the spring travel season with Team Speights, Gordon’s play earned scholarship offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Memphis, Richmond and Xavier. Last week Gordon was one of the top performers at the Best of the South Tournament in Atlanta leading to an offer from Ole Miss and new interest from Florida, Nebraska, Alabama and Auburn.
According to Team Speights head coach Aaron Holmes, college coaches love Gordon’s size, agility, athleticism and shot blocking ability. For now Gordon's offensive skills are a work in progress according to Holmes but that is largely due to the fact that he has only been playing basketball for one year.
Florida assistant coach Dusty May made the initial contact for UF and I expect the Gators will watch Gordon closely this weekend. If he plays well again this weekend, a Florida offer could come by this time next week.
