Hiden says no negotiation on debt ceiling. Says no spending cuts or else US will default

Debt ceiling doesn't cause defult. It only stops more borrowing and new spending. The only 2 ways the US will default: 1. They don't send the payment. 2. They keep raising the debt limit, keep borrowing more $ and keep spending $ so that the income is no longer enough to cover the payment amount (Which will happen probably in about 15 years if they don't cut spending. Maybe sooner if DEMS stay in control and continue to pass laws/regulations that kill the economy.

Just going from memory the last time it got "shut down"..........a few useless federal employees got furloughed for a week, and ended up getting paid later for it anyway.

House Republicans’ Budget Bill Doesn’t Spare Veterans. Democrats Are Making Them Regret It.

House Republicans passed a government funding bill last week that would both enact massive federal spending cuts and raise the so-called national debt ceiling for less than a year.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and his deputies celebrated passage of the Limit, Save, Grow Act, using the occasion to challenge President Joe Biden to begin bargaining with him.

“Continuing to ignore the problem is not an option,” the House GOP leaders said in a statement on Wednesday. “The President must come to the table to negotiate.”

But House Democrats have wasted no time trying to turn the bill into a political liability. They are depicting the legislation, which does not explicitly exempt the Department of Veterans Affairs from federal spending caps, as a devastating cut to the health care and cash benefits that military veterans receive.

“It is a fundamental breaking of faith with people that risked their lives for the country,” Rep. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.), an Iraq War veteran running for reelection in a swing seat, told HuffPost by phone on Monday.

“House Majority PAC will use these extreme votes by MAGA Republicans to slash veterans care by 22% in races across the country to ensure that Democrats take back the House,” C.J. Warnke, a spokesperson for House Majority PAC, told HuffPost in a Monday statement.

Biden got in his own dig via Twitter on Tuesday, posting a simplified flow chart he said explained the charge.

Ah. So they want to end dem boondoggles. Now I see why the left is pissed.

Guys if you have a spending shortfall, just stop sending billions to Ukraine, and spend that money on solving AMERICAN issues.

Problem solved. Besides, you can find a way to get the same kickbacks domestically that you were counting on from sending it to the crisis actor Zelensky.

House Republican Threatens to Cut VA Budget over Agency's Warnings About Budget Cuts

7ke91v.jpg

House Republicans are floating investigating the Department of Veterans Affairs or cutting its communications budget as they fume about the Biden administration's messaging on the House GOP's debt limit proposal.

The potential reprisals were suggested by a couple of lawmakers during a press call over the weekend hosted by the No. 3 House Republican, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., in which Republicans insisted the debt limit and spending cut bill they recently passed would not result in reductions to veterans health care and benefits, contrary to recent VA warnings.

"Obviously, they have too much money in the communications department if they're spending it on political purposes," Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., said in suggesting cuts to the VA's press office.
