HEY COMMIE

If there were fewer cars, there WOULD be fewer accidents. Surely you don't disagree with that.
Correlation does not imply causation. Just as the same people do most of the killing, the same number of people do the drunk driving. Look at the number of driving accidents during the last half of the Bush years when gas was plus 4 dollars and you'll find they remained flat at around 15,000.

We 'punish' people all the time for things that haven't happened. You can't drive 75 thru an active school zone.
No, that's warning someone if they do something and they get caught, they will be punished. Completely not the same thing.

The 2nd amendment is a centuries old law (think of laws that say you can't cohabitate or that women couldn't vote). Way back then, they didn't have bands of armed animals roaming the ghettos shooting people. Things change.

I have two things to say about this:
1) Women have the right to vote now. Why do they have that right? An AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION. You want to change the constitution? You go right ahead and convene a constitutional convention, write the amendment the way you want it, and get it ratified by Congress and the states. Go ahead on. We'll wait.

2) Disarming me does not stop gang violence. Once again, this is not a complex concept to grasp.

complete bull crap. Its not a "law" its a frigging RIGHT held by the PEOPLE. ...which frogs out statists like you.

Law, right, rule, whatever.....call it what you wish. It's not some law of nature......it was written by men. America has changed in the last 200+ years. We face challenges they never considered.....like armies of armed thugs roaming our living areas.

It is in fact a natural law. The right to self defense. It's how we got here. And armed gangs of thugs roving around makes it an even better idea for citizens not of that label to be able to quickly purchase and access firearms.

If you think those are all the same, then you have no comprehension of the basics of poli-social science to continue discussion, but mayhap you might understand this....

Laws are instruments of the government to regulate the behavior of the populace. A constitution is a CONTRACT between those that govern and those governed to set minimum limits on the regulation of people's freedom by the government. Certain rights are enumerated as critical to prevent government powers from descending into tyranny..... The Declaration of Independance is a document explaining why revolt against tyranny was a "right". The 2nd amendment is the expression of this right.

And if you look into history of modern nations, several have descended into tyranny.... We would be no exception without our bulwarks against such.... In fact, our bulwarks here have stabilized the world, since our freedoms are so strongly established .... We champion other nations to maintain varying degrees of democracy

Law, right, rule, whatever.....call it what you wish. It's not some law of nature......it was written by men. ...

Another point: Democracy itself isn't a "law of nature" either. A law of nature would be for the strong to dominate over the weaker. There are examples of this in almost every species on the planet. The political expression of this would be kingdoms and dictatorships established by right of conquest or the subjugation of people.

Democracy is therefore contrary to the law of nature.....its why the American system of government is called the Great Experiment....

Lets do a poll how many in this chat has had a gun pulled on them?
OK. *raises hand* What does that have to do with anything? I've never used my fire extinguisher but I've still got one.

Things I've never used: my life insurance policy, my homeowners insurance policy, the panic button on my home security system, my safe word during sex, my "in case of emergency" savings account, the fire extinguishers in my home and office, the fire detectors in my home, the crumple zone and air bags in my car, and the secret phone number Evil gave me in case I ever want to hire him as a mercenary.

I've never used any of those things, but I'm also not getting rid of them.

I personally don't have a gun for home protection because I can't figure out a way to balance keeping it safe and away from my kid and keeping it accessible enough to be useful in an emergency situation, not some BS "reason" like never buying something until after you need it.

BBB, if you have kids, this is the way to go. Quick access with the fingertip pad, backup key access if you forget your password, and mounts damn near anywhere. GunVault MiniVault Deluxe. They run about 200 bucks. As long as you keep it plugged in and check the batteries once a week, excellent, small form factor safe.

Did anyone say that?

You said if there were fewer guns, there would be fewer murders. And I'm pointing out that by hook or by crook, there will never be fewer guns.

The only person that I know that said that specifically was uniformedrere, but that was on the OTHER gun thread. Oh and Gatorshime might have said it but he's insane.

Banning guns is unnecessary and unworkable but I do think a reduction in available guns will result in a reduction in gun crimes....it's just going to take a while....like decades.

And that's what I just said, if Indians can churn out working 1911s for 10-15 dollars made with hand tools, imagine what Americans with a 1000 dollar computer controlled mill and a 300 dollar sintered metal 3D printer can do. I can go online right now and find drop in plans for pistol frames or rifle receivers that you just put into your printer and hit a button and boom, it does all the work. And remember, ammo has around a 100 year shelf life. People who want guns will always have them.

There are people hand making 1911s and other guns in the hills in the Phillipines...some of them even end up in the hands of gangs in LA and other places.....but sure, making me go thru more background checks is an effort to reduce violent crime...

WE should impose an onerous tax on machine made bullets..sportsmen and home defenders could make their own at no tariff, but the fool that just wants to shoot off his gun should have to pay for it.....

Sounds good....as long as we can impose an onerous tax on abortion while we are it.
