Gators @ Vandy...

When is the last time a Gator team lost to Vandy & Kentucky in the same year? Not a good look, no matter how we play at times or who else we beat or lose too.

Devastating? No. No 5-4 team losing a game is devastated. If we were 9-1 or better and lost to Vandy, that would be devastating. Deflating I can live with.

I think it was just a crazy game plan by Napier and Richardson being lost as usual when it comes to those option plays.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but again, I said it allllll the way back since the UT game 2 months ago that Napier's play calling was an issue. Aside for 1 or 2 people, the rest of the board who commented on it got up in arms about saying such a thing.

As much as we like to hope Napier will get an OC in the off season, I find it extremely doubtful. Napier has been a HC for years and I doubt he's going to relent on control of the offense. So, just like I said in the UT game, for UF to win....the players will have to overcome the coaching by using their talent. As we've seen multiple times now, when the talent is outmatched or underperforming, UF will lose to anybody because the coaching isn't going to make up for it.

Thankfully the importance of recruiting is better now with Napier....but I don't have confidence in his coaching decisions.

Speaking of army…perhaps a new analogy is becoming clear…

On the plus side, we DO have a 200,000 plus staff “army” that can pour over the analytics of the loss to Vandy…
Sad,

Instead of WOOOOORRYING about analytics (realize that was sarcasm !) maybe, since Saban didn't teach him anything while he was on staff, Billy should take an online class in clock management !

His answers and body demeanor I dont know if I understand. Does the guy ever get emotional about anything?

Keeping in mind that this is 'JUST A FREAKIN' GAME' that's of no real importance to the state of the world.

With the loss of FREEDOM in America, and with the many questions posed by Alien UFO/UAP's in our atmosphere world wide daily, I have a real hard time getting overly excited about the outcome of a game played by boys on a Saturday.... 🙄

Throughout the season, the Gator defense has been highly inconsistent with its most glaring issues occurring on third downs, where it ranks last in the country in conversion prevention percentage.

So it's a good thing that they got rid of that 3rd and Grantham dude..... 🙄

PS -- #1 WR Shorter hauled in 8 receptions for 106 yards on 9 targets.
And rsFr Reynolds had 8 receptions for 165 yds and 2 TD's

While JuCo xfer Chiaokhiao-Bowman was targeted a career-high 8 times with 3 receptions for 54 yds.

Well ole kirby lost to vandy at home his first season so don't act like you're not a johnny come lately
If you’re gonna compare Sunbelt Billy to Coach Smart, after losing to Vandy in year 1, he’ll need to ink the #1 recruiting class and take his team to the Natty in year 2. Think your guy has got that in him?

Urban actually won it all in year 2. Think your guy had that in him? Bob Stoops won at OU in year 2, with a not number 1 recruiting class. Why couldn't Kirby Dumb win in year 2?

Yes, we were all very impressed when your coach bought a recruiting class.

I just don't understand what our plan is on offense. Everybody knows that AR running the ball is our best play. We should feature that, threaten that and work off that just about EVERY PLAY OF EVERY GAME. If he has 4 carries in a game, or 2 at halftime, that is coaching malpractice plain and simple. I don't want to hear about reads. If the "reads" are taking away your best weapon, then get rid of the reads.

Then we keep running the ball up the middle on third and long. I get that you're trying to set it up to go for it on 4th but YOU ARE NOT FOOLING ANYONE. You're just turning third and long into 4th and long.

Then there is this nonsense going for two when you have the chance to tie in a game where points have been at a premium. That's fine that, over 1,000 conversions, going for it in that spot increases your win percentage by 1.2 percent or whatever. But guess what? Not tying the game there made it much tougher to win this particular game, and if CBN keeps losing to Vandy, he's going to be out of a job way before those percentages have a chance to play out.

Who? Oh you mean the guy that was there 4 coaches ago and had a few murderers on the team and some sociopaths. Went to Jax Jags and ruined the team and fingered a girl on video. That guy?

He is trying to be cerebral and philosophical…it comes off flat and hollow. You can talk all you want about “learning opportunities” and “growth,” but what are we really “learning?” Is the team really trending in a positive direction?

After the last 4 coaching changes, sadgator is simply tired of the talk. We hear it after every loss and every coach transition.

Actions matter…words do not. This team is 6-5 and looks arguably no better (or worse) than last year…that is where we are. Period.

Well look it took the dawgs 41 years to be relevant again I just hope it doesn't take that long in Gainesville....after year 1 nobody was singing bowl cuts praises.

No one else does either !

Napier not exactly the offensive mastermind that SOS was !

Saban, arguably CFB's G.O.A.T. Head Coach, doesn't do it; what makes Napier think he is good enough to be Head Coach, QB Coach, & OC.
Needs to bring in an OC/QB Coach.

What do the analytics say about this ? LOL

Like the "Fake" Jet Sweep we try on just about every running play but never actually run ?

You mean like in Every SEC games

KY & Tenn anyone ?
Remember the ignored FG opportunity ?
If CBN keeps losing to Vandy, he's going to be out of a job way before those percentages have a chance to play out.
Brad,

Absolute Agreement !
You are preaching to the choir !

This times a million.

We have absolutely no identity on offense and really no identity as a team. Are we a running team, passing team, tough team, finesse team…

11 games in it is impossible to describe what we are trying to do…or what we even want to do…

But we are apparently “learning”… so guess that’s good…

What are we learning?

2021

UF 29 - 31 Bama (+2)

UF 13 - 20 Kensucky (+7)

UF 42 - 49 LSU (+7)

UF 7 - 34 UGly (+27)

UF 17 - 40 SCa (+23)

UF 23 - 24 Mizzou (+1)

2022

UF 16 - 26 Kensucky (+10)

UF 33 - 38 UT (+5)

UF 35 - 45 LSU (+10)

UF 20 - 42 UGly (+22)

UF 24 - 31 Candy (+7)

While going from 3rd & Grantham,,,
to the #1 worst 3rd down defense in D-1 Football....

Looks a bit like tripping over your jock-strap on Def,
while going brain-dead on Off to me......
🙁

Jeremiah Holloman ring a bell? All Aaron Hernandez did while at UF was beat the crap out of a bouncer. That bouncer should have been fired for failing at his job. Hernandez started his murders while with the Pats.

What does screwing a Jags team and fingering a girl have to do with winning a title in 2006? Hernandez didn't even show up on campus till 2007. You also forgot to bring up his assistant at pOSU.

41 years, huh? Ron Zook could have won a title at Georgia in 2021.

sad-

I really think the identity is there. At ULL he ran an effective run-heavy offense with the QB heavily involved in the run game, just like we have seen in our good games (Utah, USCe, etc). In the bad games AR has struggled, which could be him making poor reads, which would hurt the plan. And would also explain our drastic up and downs.

Billy has a very basic, simplistic passing scheme. Most teams with these types (aharbaugh, early Bama Saban, etc) typically rely heavily on TEs. I am not sure we have one, let alone two or three, SEC caliber TEs, so the passing game is greatly impacted by the lack of talent inherited.

As far as defense, I think its a combo of primarily zero talent and then maybe a DC in a little over his head.

I think Billy’s biggest mistakes at this point are mostly staff wise. Personally I think HC/OC/QBC is too much for one guy. I realize the OL coach is co-OC but typically OL guys are involved in the run game. So it seems a QBC or co-OC to help with the passing game would help. Toney may need help with play calling on the defensive side and I think that is pretty widely agreed upon. I also think we need an on-field ST coach.

That bad and still head and shoulders better than your guy on his best day.

We aren't good enough to overcome the 3rd down defensive penalties. Vandy converted those to 14 points. Also not good enough to overcome deep in our zone turnovers. Vandy converted that into 7 points. Then finally turning it over on downs deep in our territory vandy converted into 3 points. We contributed to 24 of their 31 points with mistakes. Vandy was held to under 300 yards.
