Gators baseball and softball quick weekend recap

No. 5 Florida baseball (3-0) swept Rhode Island in its first home series of the 2015 season at McKethan Stadium.


--Friday - Florida won 9-1
Harrison Bader had 3 RBI, including a two-run homer in the fifth to increase the lead to 7-0; Starting pitcher Logan Shore had five scoreless innings as the full Florida pitching staff allowed only 5 hits while recording 9 strikeouts and zero walks.


--Saturday - Florida won 22-3
Harrison Bader had a career-best 6 RBI, Ryan Larson had 4 RBI and JJ Schwarz and John Sternagel each had 3 RBI. Bader, Schwarz and Larson each had home runs, with Bader homering twice. Pitcher Dane Dunning allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in 4.1 innings while recording 5 strikeouts.


--Sunday - Florida won 6-1
Bader led the way again with 2 RBI, while Dalton Guthrie notched a team-high 4 hits. Richie Martin had a home run in the bottom of the third. In his start, A.J. Puk allowed 6 hits, a run and 2 walks while recording 4 strikeouts in 4.2 innings.


Meanwhile, No. 1 Florida softball (11-0) went 5-0 this weekend in games this weekend against NC State and Iowa:


Friday - UF won 1-0 vs. NC State
Saturday - 8-0 vs. Iowa
Sunday - 3-0 vs. NC State


Tim Walton earned his 500th win at Florida on Saturday, while the highlight of the weekend was Kirsti Merritt's save in the 7th inning when she caught a fly ball over the wall for the top spot on SC's top 10 plays of the night. Aleshia Ocasio also had a strong game Friday night, striking out 12 batters and walking only one in a two-hit shutout. Delanie Gourley had 11 strikeouts on Saturday vs. NC State.
