Andrew Ivie (1A) and Richerd Desir-Jones (3A) both competed at 285 lbs in this weekend's FHSAA Wrestling State Finals. Desir-Jones finished 4th, losing in the closing seconds of his semifinal match 4-3. He probably should have been a state champion, but you've got to wrestle the entire 6 minutes or chit happens. Ivie finished 2nd, losing in the final 6-2 to a very talented kid from South Florida. Both new Gators looked impressive throughout the state series, winning District and Region championships. Ivie finished his season at 51-4, Desir-Jones 32-6. Both are in great shape, not a lot of fat like a lot of H.S. heavyweights. I spoke with Desir-Jones after the Broward County tournament and he is an impressive young man, very focused and an extremely hard worker. I'm looking forward to seeing what both of these guys accomplish for our Gator football team.......
