Game Thread - Observations

It continues a troubling trend for the Pac-12 in Week 1 against the SEC. After Saturday, the conference dropped to 1-8 in its last 9 Week 1 games against the SEC, per ESPN. Seven of those Pac-12 losses were ranked teams
PAC-12 teams overall are just built differently from SEC teams. Only USC bucks that trend as they actually have a winning record all-time against the conference. Their squads don't have the heavy-duty talent that SEC teams traditionally have, outside of the Trojans. If you had to pick and choose whether if you want to go out west to Salt Lake City, L.A., or Eugene Oregon as apposed to playing in the South for an Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida programs that has national championship-upside, you'd pretty much would want to come to the SEC.

Cameron "Bad Moon" Rising came up just short of leading the Utah Youths (see Cousin Vinny) to a win over the Florida Gators.

We held up decent against their run game I think if you take out their QB running on us quite a few times considering this is a team that likes to run the ball a lot.

On offense as far as the passing game I think Richardson will get a lot better as the season goes on but he was pretty composed back there and didn't force things.

"Someone had to make a play," Burney said. "It happened to be me."

It was at that moment that Napier turned to one of his assistants and said (shouted, actually), "Can you believe they pay us to do this?"

Looking at it the next day, while it was certainly a full TEAM effort, but the Gator Defense was the key to the win.

UF 7 for 38 Yds
UU 3 for 15 yds, with 0 holding calls to aid UU rushing & sacks.

Rankings don't come out until Monday, but the NCAA projection is:
#14 UF
#15 UU

Apparently I'm not the only one who noticed, or said something about it.

"The cupboard wasn't bare here when Dan Mullen left," said Utes coach Kyle Whittingham, giving a shoutout to Napier's predecessor. "They have some great players, especially the quarterback. If they can keep him healthy, they are going to win a lot of games."

Utah wore down our defense in the 2nd half. They moved the ball pretty much at will. We were concerned about the Dline before the season and those concerns proved to be correct. Good news is Utah is probably the 2nd or 3rd best team on our schedule. Very experienced with some NFL guys of their own and balanced.

Cg1, don't overlook the game officials calling UU for ZERO HOLDING CALLS. 😠

Go back and watch a replay with that as a key to see what I'm talking about.... 🤓

Not sure about missed holding calls, but I know for a fact their right tackle false started at least 3 times. Was shocked they never called it. Helps for sure when you get an early jump.

It also helps keep a stopped drive alive when they call a completion on a ball that hit the ground before the UU receiver picked it up between his feet.

Also, M.Johnson had a TD, or the ball should have at least been on the 1/2 yard line, not on the 1.5 yard line.... I think that he had the ball over the pylon when his foot finally touched out of bounds.

I could go on, but it would take to long to describe their every F-U or missed call in that game.

I'd love to see the SEC Home Office publish the Ref's game review results, but that ain't NEVER gonna happen.

Correction to AR's passing stats:

18 of 25 for 170 yds, 72%, 0 TD's, 0 Int's,
1 2-Pt Conversion completion to WR Fraziar.

I don't know why the 2-Pt conversion was left off the passing stats page???

Dude is just relatable.
So basically the polar opposite of guys like Kelly and Myer?

Especially, Kelly...he just makes everyone feel uncomfortable.

The lights were out on those muffed punt returners and blocked kicks.
Billy Napier comes in and has his team sharp and ready to take on a Top-10 opponent. Brian Kelley comes in and evidently doesn't have time to practice special teams. If they aren't hooting and hollering on the Bayou about letting CBN get out of LA, well, I'll be very surprised if that isn't happening.

Watched a full replay and some things that stood out was Torrence whiffing on like 3 tackles (not being trucked situations), Cox really disrupting things Utah was trying to do and Etienne's game. Watching that game makes me think Johnson and Etienne will be the primary backs by midseason if they stay healthy.
