Franks' mechanics no better than when he first got here

His mechanics are no different than what they were before he got here. I slow-motioned some passes and he still dips the ball way below his elbow and creates that long, slow motion. He has a strong arm but his mechanics stink, and the coaches haven't done anything to improve them. I'm sorta of the mind that mechanics can't be changed after they've been ingrained after early years of development (I've read you have your major motion patterns set very early in childhood), so perhaps it's not the coaches fault. But if I'm wrong and mechanics can be improved, then shame on the coaches, especially a supposed QB whisperer like Mac.

At any rate, I think he's better than Trask and Zaire, though Zaire has better mechanics. Still don't think he's ever going to be much better than decent, though. Probably more like mediocre. Hope I'm wrong.

Meh, mechanics are a weird thing.

Imway to drunk to be detailedbit sometimes teaching it doesn't work, but rather inhibits, andsometimesawfulmechsnics work.

Jim Furyk.

Bernie Kosar

Tebow could never adjust despite the personal cos King.

Many golfers have suffered by trying to adjust their natural swing.

Blah blah.

Things.

Point is, too much in college football can be made about mechanics.

He has a big league arm and his release is fast enough his mechanics are not a problem at this level, all that really matters in his change in two years... are the decisions he makes delivering the football, and he's certainly gotten better at that from the little i've seen and in the spring. His throwing motion is the least of my worries, we've had Heisman winners with much worse, multiple ones.. which kinda illustrates the disregard for my worries about it on the college level. If he can move the offense, and fit some throws in there with that lazer arm, then im fine with him and don't mind him playing at all. The more it looks like, he will be playing one way or another with Zaire.

And you know this...how?

Are you a coach?

I think it could be an issue when getting pressured. Some QBs seem to be able to overcome it but they are usually the types with real good situational awareness etc. which I don't think Franks is blessed with. For some reason I see his throwing motion leading to a few turnovers this season prior to him releasing the ball and it allowing the DBs to get that split second jump on his longer passes. I am really curious to see what Franks does with real pressure in his face and facing top notch DBs etc. which Mac didn't expose him to in the spring game for some reason.

Even though I don't like Franks' mechanics -- they're actually worse than Del Rio's -- I think he throws the best down field and deep balls by far. In one of the practice clips, it shows Del Rio and Franks throwing 20+ yard passes and longer balls. Even though both were throwing completions, the receiver catching the Del Rio passes were always catching them with their bodies facing Del Rio, and Franks was hitting them over their shoulders in stride. That's a huge difference in ability right there. I remember watching receivers having to turn around and wait for every pass Treon threw as well.

Bottom line, I hope Del Rio isn't our QB. I'd rather go out there with Franks and Trask any day.

I think Zaire is the safest pick against a team like Michigan but we will have to see what they do. It would be nice if we could get a win there and give Franks a big look against N Colorado.
