Probably because the ethics behind the ethical decision sway depending on the amount of games won. Programs/people will go to great lengths in supporting a player if he helps you win.

Not winning games but making the right ethical decisions.

Why does it seem like teams can do one or the other but not both?

Because it can easily be directly reflected towards wins and losses.

One team had 'zero' criminal issues whatsoever but won a national championship, and this one is kicking suspect players off of the team no matter how vital they are and they missed a bowl game for the first time in 4 decades.

A lot can be attributed to the fan base and what they are willing to put up with too. Tennessee's fanbase had absolutely no problem whatsoever with Butch Jones having 46 cases of rape by his players during his tenure. NONE. Why? Because they were winning 10 games a season in back to back seasons. They didn't care how many coeds were raped as long as he was getting them towards winning the SEC East. Why did he ultimately get fired? Because he went 4-8 and didn't win a single SEC game in 2017. Not because he was harboring felons and rapists on his football roster. I am not making the same allegations against the FSU fanbase, I'm sure enough of them were fed up with the issues that their national championship team had off the field, I'm just saying some teams are willing to win no matter WHAT happens. Some are so desperate to win that that no rules that the NCAA or the laws of the USA have will stand in their way. See Georgia right now and Texas A&M. Georgia's fanbase would sacrifice kindergarteners on the 50 yard line every day at high noon from now until kickoff if it meant they could get to the 2019 national championship game and they wouldn't lose a second of sleep over it. Texas A&M is willing to throw millions if not billions of dollars towards winning The SEC and ultimately the national championship.

Look how much crap Urban Meyer swept under the rug here when he was at Florida and all we heard weekly was "handling it internally."

1. Actually you're full of crap thinking this about the UGA fanbase.
2. Is the 46 number accurate or are you exaggerating?

FSU dumped DeAndre Hopkins like a hot potato when he punched a woman at a bar (even though she punched him first).

Part of it is that having a viral video or audio makes things 100x worse, both from a PR standpoint and due to the fact that there is no way to deny that it happened. Also, the current president of FSU has turned out to be surprisingly media savvy and willing to prioritize the school’s reputation over football. I think he was part of the reason Fisher left. I know that he vetoed at least one of Fisher’s recruits to prevent a potential media circus over past allegations.

You know, it’s times like this that I realize that we owe it to ourselves to focus less on petty rivalries and more on the things in life that are really important —

—like why couldn’t she have released that video *before* Jalen Hurts made his decision?
