This would have been good to know back in March. Again the experts botched this one by first saying no one but medical people should wear a mask and simultaneously saying they don't work anyway. HUH? Then it was wear one. Now its you must wear one.

I WEAR ONE and called BS on the original don't wear one declaration.

Even the crappy ones most people are wearing give substantial protection over being unmasked.

A Stanford epidemiologist declared back in March it was a mistake to implement mass, long-term lockdowns against COVID-19, warning of unintended social harms.


Now, Dr. John Ioannidis says it provides him no satisfaction to see that borne out.

In an article in March for STAT, he wrote "we don’t know how long social distancing measures and lockdowns can be maintained without major consequences to the economy, society, and mental health."

"Unpredictable evolutions may ensue, including financial crisis, unrest, civil strife, war, and a meltdown of the social fabric."

Over the weekend, in an interview with the Greek Reporter, he noted unemployment numbers matched only by the Great Depression, business closures from small to large, drug abuse and suicide spikes, and social unrest...

"I hope they are reversible, and this depends to a large extent on whether we can avoid prolonging the draconian lockdowns and manage to deal with COVID-19 in a smart, precision-risk targeted approach, rather than blindly shutting down everything," he said.

"Similarly, we have already started to see the consequences of 'financial crisis, unrest, and civil strife.' I hope it is not followed by 'war and meltdown of the social fabric.' Globally, the lockdown measures have increased the number of people at risk of starvation to 1.1 billion, and they are putting at risk millions of lives, with the potential resurgence of tuberculosis, childhood diseases like measles where vaccination programs are disrupted, and malaria.

"I hope that policymakers look at the big picture of all the potential problems and not only on the very important, but relatively thin slice of evidence that is COVID-19."

He noted their reliance on bad models, predicting as many as 40 million would die.

"The predictions of most mathematical models in terms of how many beds and how many ICU beds would be required were astronomically wrong," Ioannidis said. "Indeed, the health system was not overrun in any location in the USA, although several hospitals were stressed."

He said there already are "more than 50 studies that have presented results on how many people in different countries and locations have developed antibodies to the virus."

"Of course none of these studies are perfect, but cumulatively they provide useful composite evidence," he said. "A very crude estimate might suggest that about 150-300 million or more people have already been infected around the world, far more than the 10 million documented cases."


That, he said, suggests a fatality risk far lower than some estimates. For those under 45 years old, it's "almost 0%." It increases significantly for those over 85.

The mass lockdowns of entire populations were a mistake, he said...."

COVID-19 is a disease that should be taken seriously, but the recent spike in cases shouldn't cause alarm, contends a former department head at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Scott Atlas, now a senior fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution, said in a Fox News interview that what matters is not how many coronavirus cases there are, but "who gets the cases."

"The cases themselves should not be and were never the focus. It's only the tragic consequences of the cases. When we look at the cases in every state, the overwhelming majority are younger and healthier people," he said...

The death rate for people under age 70, about .04%, is even lower than for the seasonal flu, he pointed out.

"We realize we have to wait to have the story play out here, but right now, the cases have been going up for three weeks and we have no increase [in deaths]," he told Trace Gallagher on Monday.

"In fact, we have a decrease in death rates. You know, it doesn't matter if you get the illness if you're going to fully recover and be fine from it," said Atlas, the former chief of neuroradiology at the Stanford Medical Center.

"That is what people must understand. For younger healthier people, there's not a higher risk from this disease at all."

Further, he insisted the spike in hospitalizations in Texas, Arizona, Florida and California is not related to COVID.

Atlas explained the hospitalization data does not distinguish between patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and those hospitalized for other reasons who test positive after they arrive.

"When I looked at every single hospital area in Texas today, 15 to 20 percent of people in the hospital as inpatients are [COVID-19] positive patients," he said.

"That means 80 to 85 percent have nothing to do with COVID-19. And the same thing goes with some of the other states. There are people hospitalized, a large number, because they are tested as [COVID-19] positive, somehow they're categorized as [COVID-19] hospitalizations. That's a problem," he said.

In the U.S., the coronavirus has killed more than 130,000 people among 2.9 million confirmed cases, according to Johns Hopkins University. Globally, there are more than 11.4 million confirmed cases and more than 535,000 deaths...."

Yeah the spin that he doesn't help the wearer never made any sense. Then again, almost nothing that's come from the left and its 'medical experts' has made any sense.

The only person that's known what's up the whole time was the guy that gave us the cure for hoax flu back in April, and the left lost its mind and immediately banned the cure and called for his impeachment. That's when I started to suspect that this miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight just be a hoax.

Glad that you're a mask wearer now. I'm pretty sure that injecting bleach is not the cure, but let us know. probably no one need worry about covid.... only 15 cases and soon to be zero. If Trump had listened about the masks in the first place we'd have 40k fewer deaths and our economy would be better like.... many of the rest of the industrialized nations. In your mind the CDC and FDA banned HCQ because they are the "left" LOL Of course in your mind "back in April, and the left lost its mind and immed. banned the cure and called for his impeachment" Someone lost their mind, since DJT was impeached in Dec.by the House and the kangaroo Senate voted early Feb. Beware what you hear on the news. Generic masks (not N95 or general surgical masks) has a particle arrestance in the size of the Covid virus of 25-28%, not 65%. There is certainly a reduction in spread of droplets if a person with Covid coughs because the velocity of dispersion is reduced

You can get to about a 50-58% mask effectiveness if the dispersant and the potential receiver both have masks, as you can add effectiveness factors

And also for the fact that those larger droplets the mask catches would have fallen to the ground. The only way one would get a virus by large droplets is if the walked right through the cough without the particles falling. But the smaller particles float about for some to walk through and inhale, so why wear a mask?

I had to wear one on-and-off for most of yesterday. I swear I pushed, pulled, rubbed my nose about a hundred times. Yeah, it really does help for window-dressing.

If the mask would catch the droplets and you removed the mask from the equation.... the droplets hit you in the face. That's exactly why you wear the mask.. The larger particles do fall quickly, but that's with or without a mask, or person being there. The smaller particle thing you have to remember.... yes the mask will not stop the virus sized particles , but by definition, smaller particles contain a smaller viral load, which improves your chanes.

Well Einstein.... the poster declared the large droplets hit the mask. Therefore the droplets while still large and falling, were moving rapidly toward the mask and made contact. The statement you made "objects with greater mass fall to the ground faster" is totally false, and again proves you should not try to science, or math ever again. Not even physics 101, this is taught in middle school. That is a priceless example of a total lack of understanding of gravity. You are now asserting that gravity can recognize large/small objects and so can accelerate the big ones faster!!! Science can be difficult, leave it those that can understand it.
