I have two neighbors who are currently School Teachers. They had to pass children who weren't qualified. Just as their children were passed along when they weren't qualified. Wound up going to Pellissippi State and took remedial courses their freshmen years in Algebra and a couple of other subjects even though they made A's and B's in that subject back in high school. By the way, when was the last time anyone here knowing about some child failing a grade. That Republican Lamar Alexander sure destroyed the educational system here in Tennessee but one thing about it. "IT SURE LOOKS GOOD ON PAPER!" George Bush was sooooo proud of Lamar.

I was told to give students no less than 65 on all work (even assignments that were never turned in). I gave out zeroes until the cows came home that semester.

I was a "professional tourist" from 1991 to May, 2003. I spent some time quizzing high school students and recent high school graduates nation wide. I almost always led with, please name me one U. S. Supreme Court Justice. Not a single correct answer. Not one in 12 years.

The simplest science question I know. Since primates have walked the earth, how much of our water supply have we exhausted? I can count with fingers on two hands the number of correct answers. What's the smartest of all the primates? About an 18 percent correct answer rate.

I'm a harsh critic of our costly, miserable and failing government run public education system.

Oh, 95 percent could tell me who Brad Pitt was married to.

This was the test given to Kansas 8TH GRADE STUDENTS in 1895 that they had to pass before being allowed to go to High School.

I doubt that 10% of College seniors could pass it today.

Younger daughter is a second grade teacher at Fort Collins Bethke. A nephew and a niece are elementary teachers in the Lawton, OK school district. All much teach to pass a test. No teaching of subject matter one might think a student needs.

The Feds began the takeover of public education in 1965.

I quiz Oklahoma students regularly. Most are familiar with what's his name who is white with a splash of Cherokee. None have ever heard of Bass Reeves, who was the greatest deputy sheriff to ever pin on a badge. Reeves was ambidextrous and the Indians saw this as a gift from the Great Father. It is. Reeves was permitted to roam about Indian Territory undeterred. An Indian scout rode with him. Some historians call Reeves the real Lone Ranger. Belle Starr, upon hearing Reeves had a warrant for her arrest, turned herself in to Fort Smith authorities. Reeves was black. Reeves is buried at Muskogee.

Ask an Oklahoma student how many counties are in Oklahoma or where the first capital was. Good luck with that one. 77 and Guthrie. I still remember. I never would have moved to Grade 3 without knowing.

When it was announced that many companies would be awarding $1,000 bonuses to employees due to Trump tax cuts, I reposted one of these stories on social media, and it outraged a lib. He said it was meaningless and that the rich companies would get back far more than $1,000 an employee so the tax cut should not go through. I told this person, what does it matter if the company benefits, isn't the bigger deal that employees would get $1,000 each?

He said it wasn't worth it if the rich company also got something. These people don't want to help the poor, they want to hurt the rich. Even when Trump does something that helps the poor greatly, they dont want to do it because it will also help the rich.

Corporations do not pay taxes. I pay the tax. Charter Communications collects taxes from me and forwards them to the city, the Midway Independent School District, the county and the Feds. It used to be anyone who slept through high school Economics 101 knows this.

My wife also retired from the county school system here a couple
of years ago. She worked at an elementary school as a bookkeeper/
secretary for ever. That is how i know what i do about our educational
system here in America as well as the county i reside in. Met alot of
teachers over the years and heard most of the horror stories as well. I have always said that the two highest paid professions in America should be teaching and law enforcement.
Now the teachers will tell you that they are nothing more that just
glorified baby sitters. That's pretty sad!
What is really sad is they have been talking on the sports radio shows
how a player named Bryce Harper has supposedly been offered $300
million for 10 years! WTH! We honestly can't understand what is happening
here in America? Really? As i am finding myself to say more and more
here recently. ROME IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting how teachers aren't any longer being able to turn out a smarter, wiser product (students)...but we need moar H1B visa folks to arrive since big bidness says we need to smartest & brightest to come ro our land from overseas.

You are correct on all counts. Teaching (especially at the MS level) has become a facilitator position that must put up with disrespect, irate parents, students being processed, and unruliness.
