Sophomore outfielder Sterlin Thompson is the first Florida Gators player to get drafted in the 2022 MLB Draft. The Colorado Rockies selected Sterlin Thompson on Sunday night with the 31st overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Coming out of high school, Thompson was a highly-touted prospect from North Marion High School. He was considered a top 200 prospect in the 2020 MLB Draft but wasn’t selected in the shortened five-round draft.

During his time at Florida, Thompson had a very productive career with the Gators. As a freshman, Thompson slashed .301/.396/.470 with 55 hits, ten doubles, three triples, five home runs, 27 RBIs, and a .866 OPS. He was also named to the 2021 SEC All-Freshman Team.

As a sophomore, Thompson had an excellent season for the Florida Gators. Thompson slashed .354/.443/.563 with 90 hits, sixteen doubles, eleven home runs, 51 RBIs, 37 walks, and a 1.006 OPS.

On MLB Pipeline, Thompson is the 29th-ranked prospect in the 2022 MLB Draft. On ProspectsLive, Thompson is the 31st-ranked draft prospect in this draft class. Thompson is also the 36th-ranked draft prospect according to ESPN.

The slot value for the 31st pick is $2,429,300.
