Florida Baseball 2025

O'Sullivan ALWAYS protects his pitcher's arms. That's why so many high quality pitchers go to Florida. King had thrown 110 pitches through 7 innings. That was 20 pitches, roughly, more than he's thrown in a games this season. There was no way he was coming back to start the 8th. Clemente has been money over the last several weeks, going as many as 3 innings to close games. It was absolutely the right move to make - and it worked out fine. We won the game.
What's funny is Clemente had to throw over 60 pitches to close out 2 innings. 😂

He went to ball 3 I believe on first 6 hitters or whatever. When he did it in the 9th it looked like Sully’s eyes were going to roll back into his head.

I saw that. It was "just effing throw the ball over the plate dumbass, we're up 4 runs, let's pack our tents and GTFO of here".

The reason Jake lost his slot as a weekend starter was inconsistent control. He's one of the most dominant pitchers in D1 baseball when he finds the strike zone and one of the main reasons for the Gators turnaround from 1-11 in the SEC to 13-14 is Clemente moving to the closer role. Sunday, his control was off and the umpire's strike zone was all over the place. And yet he still dug deep and found a way to get 6 outs for a 4-1 win over the #1 team in the country. That's a reason to celebrate, not complain. Go Gators!

Gators have battled back from an 1-11 start in the SEC to 13-14, guaranteeing them a slot in the NCAA tournament. Now, believe it or not, they are working to get a Top 16 seed to host a Regional. The regular season ending series against Alabama will decide whether or not that happens. Even without the best hitter the last 3 weeks, SS Colby Shelton, these guys have battled back and are playing as well as any team in the country. Kudos to Kevin O'Sullivan and the way he's led this team after all the devastating injuries.

I thought it was great last week we pitched Coppola Friday night and then Peterson. Peterson is a very emotional dude and I think he gets too wound up for the Friday night matchup. Last Saturday was the best he’s pitched all year. And Coppola seemed pretty unbothered by Friday night.

And then you’ve got Peterson and King Saturday and Sunday which is probably best in the country.

Freaking Heyman hit by a pitch and out. Craziness.

They just hit stripling. Intentional or not, first pitch by Peterson in the bottom of the inning needs to go in the middle of the guy’s back. This is ridiculous.

Unreal win. Couldn’t have started off worse. Peterson gets bombed. Heyman and Nadeau get hurt. Have to pull a redshirt off a kid to play LF and they just keep coming and coming. Clemente blew away the top of their lineup in the 9th.

2 guys hurt during the game, our ace gives up 5 runs early and yet they should the resiliency to fight back and win the game. Tremendous fight in this group of guys and a great coaching job by Kevin O'Sullivan to bring this team back from all the injuries and a 1-11 SEC start to where they are now.

I wonder how many teams out there that will be hosting a regional are praying they don’t draw us?

Kevin Brockway reporting that Luke Heyman is done for the year with a fractured forearm. Another devastating blow to this team.
Great come from behind win, but boy do we miss Jac at 1st base, without mentioning his bat. And a crazy pop fly just lands between two fielders, I got it, you take it. We were lucky last night.

Heyman is a tough tough loss. Probably our best player since SEC play started. We’re lucky to have Donay to step in. This lineup just keeps grinding though.

Is it Coppola tonight?

That's who's scheduled, yes. But with the way our luck is going he'll pull a hamstring in warm-ups and have to be scratched!

We've got guys all over the field playing out of their normal position and 2nd and 3rd stringers in the lineup. All those injures are starting to catch up with us. Losing Heyman might have been the final straw. There is literally nobody left on the bench. Depth is used up.

Seriously, we have clown infielders at 3rd base, SS, and 1B. We win in spite of our fielding. 😂

They looked better after Sully switched Lawson & Stripling midgame today. Lawson is much better at 1st than at 3rd. You have to understand that Florida has ZERO bench players left due to injuries and only Hayden Yost is playing his normal position of CF and he started the season on the bench. We have a quality 3rd baseman playing SS, a left fielder playing 2nd due to 2 second baseman being hurt, our first baseman is our only catcher left and Lawson had been a SS in high school and is only playing 1st (3rd for a few games prior to mid game today) for the first time in his life because of his bat and needing him to be in the lineup. Now there's no choice. Calling guys doing their best playing out of position as "clowns" is pretty disrespectful and ridiculous, IMO. This is a team that was 1-11 in SEC play with before some key injuries and now are 15-15 with a chance to host a Regional and the #3 SOS in the nation, having won our last 6 SEC series. How about giving the coaches and players some credit for their successes instead of complaining!??!

Yeah these guys might end up hosting a regional. Pretty incredible when you consider they started out 1-11 and with all the injuries. Literally their three best mlb hitting prospects are all out. And to Ocala’s point their infield is a damn fire drill. Nobody is playing their position.

winning 6 straight SEC series as banged up as they have been is extremely impressive.

The only runs the pitchers are giving up are unearned. The infielders are having a tough time fielding grounders and when they do it’s anyone’s guess if it going to wind up anywhere near first base.

But they did make a big play with bases loaded up 4-2 to get the force at home. And Yost saved some runs with a diving play in the outfield. I think you can criticize components of their games but when you add it up it equals winning baseball. Look how good they’ve been on the bases, stealing home yesterday. 6 SEC series wins in a row speaks for itself.

It's a good thing the bats are lively. What are the percentages of winning a game (comfortably) while committing 3 errors? I'd venture a guess, not very high. Those lead to jailbreak innings and getting a pitcher throwing a decent game yanked, for no fault of their own.

Very true. Gators were fielding at .982, one of the best in the nation, until all the injuries forced all these guys playing out of position. Hopefully, we get Nadeau & Shelton back for the NCAA tournament. That will shore up the infield, but not having Heyman behind the plate and hitting #3 is still a huge loss.

interested in how we approach these games. We probably need a win or two to get a chance to host a regional. I don’t love Barlow starting game 1 but definitely want to keep all our high leverage guys healthy.

not even 5 minutes in and im reminded why I don't watch college baseball because the umpires are so God awful.. he just struck out two people and yet the bases are loaded with nobody out because of incompetence behind the plate
