Florida Baseball 2025

I thought the pitching was pretty solid. A couple guys got roughed up Sully was definitely getting the young guys some looks. Bats kept coming and put up a decent number. 10 Ks and 3 walks. Seems like every time you look up Gators batters are in an 0-2 count.

They look like they can really play defense.

We had a rough regular season in 2024, got hot at the end and made it to the semifinals for the national title. This year, the season is off to a MUCH better start. No Cags, of course, but more balance in the lineup top to bottom. And the weekend pitching rotation seems to be set, while last year there were struggles from the get-go. Also, the pitching depth is unquestionably better, which will help us win more midweek games, I think. Anyway, each year is it's own animal and so far I like what I'm seeing from this team. But our first major test is coming up this weekedn when Miami comes to town with an 8-1 record. Even though they're not in the Top 25 right now, it's a huge baseball rivalry and the Canes always have plenty of talent.

Last season blew chunks, and then what a fun post season ride. Once something clicked, the team took off. This year we feel deeper on the mound and in the lineup. Last year you expected to lose the mid week game as you never knew what the heck was going to happen on the mound. But as you mentioned, the season really gets going this weekend.

2 key injuries early in the game, though. Pierce Coppola comes out in the 3rd inning with an undisclosed injury. Cade Kurland hurts his shoulder making a great play diving for a nall in the 1st inning and is in a sling later. But this Gator team looks very good - lots of balance and deep piyching.

I read on another board that Coppola had a blister. Pickel juice is the old time fastest and easiest fix, but can take several days to a couple of weeks to get the hand back ready to pitch. Kurland dislocated his shoulder and even though it popped back in, ligaments get stretched and it can take several weeks before you can strain it again by throwing a baseball. We shall see.
Fortunately we have enough depth to cover both injuries, although Kurland had been pounding the ball of late. Today, USF transfer Bobby Boser is moving from 3rd to 2nd and Texas Tech transfer Landon Stripling will play 3rd.

well we ran into the limits of our bullpen depth today. Still a good series win and great start to the season. The guys that caved in today look like our midweek guys.

Game fell apart quickly. Up 4-0 and then walks, hit batters did us in. Canes scored 7 runs in 2 innings off 3 hits. Gave that one away early.

Today was the first game this year where the pitching just fell apart. We couldn't use our top 3 bullpen pitchers because they had been used Friday & Saturday. And the guys they did bring in didn't have it. But you expect your weekend starters to go more than 4 innings. Oh well. 11-1 is really good. 2 tough midweek games next -@UCF and home vs Florida Atlantic. Then hosting Harvard over the weekend.

Goal is always 2 of 3. We did that. Today was less about Miami, and more about what we gave them. Can't give up 11 freebies and expect to win.

Yeah I expect we’ll be looking for more innings out of our starters as the season goes on and they build up their conditioning. Clemente was going great until he lost control and started walking and hitting everyone. Then the next two bullpen arms had nothing and gave the game away. Losing Coppola early with an injury obviously hurt.

We look pretty good though. Looks like the ingredients are there. Hopefully Kurland isn’t out long term but that sounds like a nasty injury. We’ve got a lot of infield depth but losing him would hurt.
