Fisher gets into it with FSU fan...

Can't tell if serious or not? You do know Meyer has 3 national titles with 3 different starting QBs.
Yeah. He should probably think before he opens his mouth next time. I was wondering if he was so traumatized by Tebow that he totally forgot Chris Leak. Hell Meyer started 3 different QBs in his last championship year.

Dead serious....if people are going to cherry pick stats (i.e. Jimbo sucks without Jameis) at least be consistent. Meyer had middling years at UF without Tebow. That is a fact. Trying to use arguments such as he never would have won if...are silly. Gator rivals do it all the time with UF backing in to 3 titles....I don't buy in to that. You produce your own luck and whether you like it or not, Jimbo with or without Jameis is one of the top coaches in the game. Back out the Jameis numbers ...cherry pick what you want. His win loss record is one of the best in college football and I won't even get in to what he has done to UF and UM our two biggest rivals.

and the odds still are, kirby has to win more than 7 games against mediocre teams to pull that off.. the rest of this season will say plenty about him, and two L's for sure are coming.. im not fooled by bama ball without saban and his players
Kirby has the talent to win a natty this year. The odds would STILL be high that he wouldn't be there 7-8 years after. The is the nature of the beast at a Power 5 team.

Errr... this would be a salient point if not for the fact that Meyer went on to win a national championship at Ohio State, with a third sting quarterback. At this point, Meyer is probably the only coach in CFB, whose name is not Saban, who can credibly claim GOAT tier.
You are making my point for me. Thanks...bc that sure wasn't the story when Urban left UF.

I used to be jaded enough, as a UF fan who started college there at the end of the Spurrier era (my first year was Spurrier's last, so the majority of my time, Zook was the coach, talk about a bait and switch!), that during Spurs' last year, I was bitching about our defense and our recruiting falling off. I really thought we could plug just about anyone in there and fall backward into 10 wins a year. I was very wrong. The right coach is a prerequisite to success and there's really only a handful that are capable of winning big at big time programs. It doesn't matter how big a football factory you're talking about, how much money they have, how big a recruiting base. Just look at the extended mediocrity of Michigan pre-Harbaugh (and he's not exactly kicking the doors off the hinges), USC since Carrol, 'Bama, pre-Saban, FSU late in the Bowden era, UF since Meyer. It goes on and on.

Even someone like Richt at UGA. They might have been the rare program to pull off an upgrade. But when they fired Richt, the percentages were against them finding someone who could win as much as Richt did.
Solid post, Bradley. Odds are VERY high that regardless of who your favorite team is, your coach will not be there in 5 years for performance reasons. Most fans can't accept that. Probably 2-3 percent of coaches are good enough to keep their jobs beyond that....fans will continue to think that their program is good enough to plug and play. That is not the way it works.

Hello?? Meyer has won 3 national titles. He won 2 at UF with 2 different starting QBs. The situation isn't even close to Fisher's. He won those national titles with different QBs.

The fumble at the end is not Jimbo protecting the QB. It's a read option that he rarely runs. In that situation where all the team has to do is run between the tackles he adds an extra decision to the process for a freshman QB in a critical point of the game. Dumb.

Meyer would not have won in 2006 or 2008 without Tebow. Do you know how I know this? I know this bc I was told this endlessly by UF fans on THIS BOARD, when Meyer went to OSU. I was also told that UF was a plug and play situation, and that UF made Meyer, not the other way around, that he would not have the success at OSU like he did at UF. Those were dominant sentiments on this board (with a handful of exceptions, such as Sad)

You starting to see now how ridiculous it is to cherry pick stats?

Huh? Who said that?? I don't remember that at all. That was sour grapes. It was obvious from his time at UF that he was a big time coach. To this day I have said Meyer is one of the GOAT college head coaches.

UF wouldn't have won the 2006 national title without Chris Leak either. Tebow made some big plays in 2006 to help the team but he wasn't the starting QB.

The situations aren't even remotely similar or comparable between Fisher and Meyer. Fisher has 1 national title. Meyer has 3 national titles with 3 different starting QBs at 2 different schools. He also went undefeated at Utah. In fact didn't Meyer use 3 QBs when he won a national title at Ohio State? Fisher is on his 2nd string QB and is sitting at 2-4.

I wish we still had Mark Stoops. He was a solid DC at FSU, and he's doing better at Kentucky than either Mac or Jimbo are doing with far more talent.

Can't tell if serious. Mac is 3-0 against Stoops and has won the East twice. You know the SEC East? The same division where UK resides. Mac might have had and still has more talent than Stoops. But Stoops has not done better. In fact, it was the Stoops defense that gave up a 17 point fourth quarter lead against a pathetic offense.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone, anywhere, say UF wouldn't have won 2008 without Tebow. I've often seen it argued that they'd have won 2006 without him - usually when discussing where he ranks on a list of all-time great QBs (as a means of pointing out that on that team he wasn't the QB, but simply the short yardage power runner).

Meyer did very well in 2005 without Tebow at all, and won a national title in 2006 with Leak as the starter, Tebow getting mixed time.

2007 was solid, similar to 2005 when Tebow won a Heisman. 2008 and 2009 were great, one loss only each season, with a national title and maybe two had they called holding on Bryant's early hold assisted TD...trolling bammma fans who have bat signals. 2010 was a bit down then he was gone. So really, ONE sub par season that ended with a bowl win over Penn State.

In other words, after an undefeated Utah season without Tebow, nothing but high level success in Ohio without Tebow.,,

You really should stick it up your ass for being so wrong yet so defiant.
