Mike Winter (FSUcks msg-board troll); "The 'by committee' approach, if true, will mean that UF doesn't have a great back. Taylor was not a great back, (9th Gator RB to rush for 1,000+ yds in a season) but he was the best UF had (Jr early departure to the NFL), o_O so he played. I you have a great back, there is one guy who takes the job. LSU, FSU, and Georgia, if Chubb is healthy, have great backs and feature him. It remains to be seen if UF has one, and if the "by committee" approach" is true, then UF doesn't have a great back." (total BS)

Thank GAWD Almighty, RB's by committee at last!!! -- iG
Three times the Gators have had 3+ backs rush for over 500 yards each in a season. In all 3 cases UF had a winning season, and every one of the backs made it on to the NFL. The last 'committee' to do it (4 runners) had almost 2,700 season yards as a group.

Following a season where the pair of freshmen factored into UF’s rotation, the Gators under McElwain have taken a RB “by-committee” approach to the position throughout the Spring 2016 practices. RB's coach Tim Skipper said the four tailbacks form a versatile group with their different styles and skill sets.

Unlike the single back schools (Chubb), UF will have injury protections, which imo is the best reason to run by committee. Most schools (like FSUcks mainly) can't get and keep 4 backs on their rosters, much less understand how to coach them all up and use them all in a game. :p

The Spring game starter quality RB depth chart:

1-A Mark Herndon 5-9 203 *** rsSr (very solid and on every S-T's roster)
2-A Mark Thompson 6-2 242 4.40/40 ***** rsJr (offered by UA/Saban)
3-A Jordan Cronkrite 5-11 204 **** Soph - (3.6 ypc with 3 TD's as a tFr)
4-A Jordan Scarlett 5-10 213 4.38/40 **** Soph - (5.3 ypc with 1 TD as a tFr)
That's 4 Quality RB's, the 2 Marks and the 2 Jordans... Yeee

Haw!

W-O Tyriek Hopkins 5-8 177 ** rsFr (the only 'little' guy)

That Top Quality RB Depth Chart by the summer will be adding another 4 star recruit:
Lamical Perine 5-11 218 **** Fr (summer arrival, because of depth, a likely redshirt imo barring injuries)
He broke/set Theodore, AL HS's All Time rushing record: Sr season = 1,667 yds, 16 TD's
He was named the Alabama 7A HS Back of the Year.
Recruited by: UF - UA, MsSt, LSU - OK, NC, UCLA, Minn, etc.

2008 Total Rushing - 2,637 yds, 33 TD's. (committee of 4 with over 600 yds each)

WR/RB Percy Harvin - Rushing 660 yds, 9.4 ypc, 10 TD's

Ath Jeff Demps - Rushing 605 yds, 7.8 ypc, 7 TD's

RB Chris Rainey - Rushing 652 yds, 7.8 ypc, 4 TD's

QB Tim Tebow - Rushing 673 yds, 3.8 ypc, 12 TD's
--------------------------
Plus another 618 yds and 7 TD's by these 3 extras...
RB Emmanuel Moody 417 yds, 7.2 ypc, 1 TD
RB Kestahn Moore 142 yds, 4.9 ypc, 4 TD's
RB Brandon James 59 yds, 4.2 ypc, 2 TD's
* 7 other bit players had another 56 yards with 2 TD's.

2008 Total Team Rushing was: 3,311 Yards with 42 Touchdowns.

Show me any single RB in NCAA History with those numbers, especially vs a Top 10 SoS, and I'll STHU about RB by committee.
o_O (the more the merrier imoho)

But there were still the clueless idiot-commentators and media-morons claiming that Tebow was UF's entire running game, even while those other 3 guys combined for 1,964 yds with 21 TD's.
===========

The other 2 RB groups to all rush for 500+ in a season were:

2003 -- Ran Carthon 595 yds - Ciatrick Fason 583 yds - Deshawn Wynn 540 yds = 1,718 yds.

1984 -- Neal Anderson 916 yds - John L. Williams 793 yds - Lorenzo Hampton 693 yds = 2,402 yds.

E.Smith's best season in 1989 was 1,599 Yards - 5.6 ypc - 14 TD's.
In 1988 when UF had it's greatest RB in history, the Gators went down the tubes as a team while he was injured and couldn't play. To me, that proves that having a good RB committee is better than having even the best RB ever....

If we have decent blocking then we have guys that can run the ball.

Two TE's and the starting OL should be able to open some holes most of the time.

#27 WR/TE-Y Moral Stephens 6-3 247 rsSo ****
#2 LT
David Sharpe 6-6 347 Jr *****
#1 LG/LT Martez Ivey 6-5 312 So ***** (true Fr All SEC Team at OG)
#20 C/OG Cameron Dillard 6-4 308 rsJr ****
#3 OG/C Tyler Jordan 6-4 295 So **** true Fr starter, UA-AA
#155 RT Fredrick Johnson 6-6 315 So *** - true Fr Starter ~ 2014 FL HS 7A All-State 2nd Team
#9 TE-H DeAndre Goolsby 6-4 240 Jr ****

Very fast at WR - and very, very fast at the slot to take the opposing DB's deep.

I see the committee runners getting over 2.000 yards in the coming season, IF they can stay mostly healthy.

In 2008 the Gators had 4 primary runners (all over 600 yds, (2,637 33 TD's) and 3 more backups with and additional 618 yds, 7 TD's. That's makes 7 runners with a total of 3,255 yards and 40 TD's.

(I don't miss not having Cook or Chubb at all) :p

Any injuries they might have had back in 2008, had zero affect on the Gator's running game that season, because it was man down, next man up. IF your only, or your very primary 'star' RB goes down with an injury, it can have a very negative effect on your season. (see UF in 1988 with E.Smith)

So, 3,255 yds with 40 TD's by a 7 man committee. Now that's what I call having a solid running game. Also, all 7 of those runners eventually got their shot at playing in the NFL, while not being burned-out in college. As always, some do better than others once they do get into the NFL, but they all got their shot. P.Harvin - T.Tebow - J.Demps - C.Rainey - E.Moody - K.Moore - B.James.

But that was a very special group and so it could never happen again, right? o_O
=============

Considering that UF's 'youngest OL in the nation since WWII' helped Kelvin Taylor (not a great RB according to some) run for over 1,000 yards, to become the 1st Gator RB to do so in over a decade. Then for 2016, being seasoned, supported, and backed up with better depth, and with a QB and other play-makers at WR & TE, I'm thinking that the OL will be even better. Even the biggest doom-&-gloomer (non-homers) should be able to see that much, IF they can extract their heads from that warm/dark place where they've been keeping them lately....

That's 5 solid, quality RB's that are all coming in at over 200 lbs, (203 > 242).

1-B Slot-WR/RB/PR Brandon Powell 5-9 184 4.38/40 Jr
2-B Slot-WR/RB/PR Dre Massey 5-9 183 4.32/40 Jr
3-B QB Kyle Trask 6-4 228 4.48/40 Fr EE (if they use or start him)

The new quality and depth in the passing game should really help to open up the running game, and vice versa. Mc-Nuss are known for their very balanced attack when they have the playmakers that can make it happen. So while they might not go over 3,000 yds again, 2,000+ on the ground with 20+ TD's seems do-able to me.
