I have never quite understood the difference "Power Rankings" & all other polls; just ESPN's way to be different ?

FWIW - SEC 6 of top 10.

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Georgia
4. Florida
5. Notre Dame
6. Oklahoma
7. LSU
8. TAMU
9. Texas
10. Auburn

With regard to Dawgs, take all the hype spewed out with Jamie Newman at QB, cross his name out, & write in J T Daniels.

The biggest win of the offseason for Georgia might have been USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels getting a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play right away this season, especially with Wake Forest graduate transfer Jamie Newman announcing this week that he was opting out for the season. Daniels, recovering from a torn ACL a year ago, still has to be cleared medically for contact. But he has plenty of game, and with a deep, fast and talented Georgia squad, the Dawgs should be in the middle of the national championship conversation.

Daniels is sure to be the #1 ranked SEC QB, etc, etc. - LOL

Wowser.... UK ranked 17th.... hope they live up to the ranking. I also like the bottom 10 feature on ESPN as long as UK isn’t on it.

Here’s hoping to a full season... 🤞👍
Part of that is the exclusion of the other 2 conferences. But looks like expectations are up either way.

Looks to me like Georgia is being set up to be "seasons biggest bust".

ESPN always likes to have that angle ready to go. Gives them lots of storylines.

I mean, think about it. What was everybody all hyped up over Newman for? Because he was MOBILE. There was going to be RPO's, QB draws, scrambling for first downs, finally, the era of the Fromm the Statue was over.

But this Daniels guy? He's not a runner, never was. Now he's got a bum wheel he isn't even fully healed from yet. He's going to be a statue back there. But what does ESPN say? "No worries!" They don't even see a dropoff.

I'm telling you, they have pencilled Georgia in as this year's bust, and they aren't going to give it up without a fight.

LG89,

Hoping that that dream will come true !

I think, although I could be wrong, that the idea of the Power Poll is purely the strength of the team. Polls are more ambiguous. In the polls, is it how good you think they are, or just that they are winning even if they aren't playing anybody of note yet, or maybe how you think the season will end, etc.

For example, let's say that Georgia beats Alabama, but JT Daniels gets hurt late in the game and is out for the season. In the polls, Georgia would jump to #2 or maybe #1, but in the power poll, if ESPN felt that losing JT Daniels was going to seriously hurt them, they could drop in the power poll even after the big win. Such like that.

LG89,

Makes sense; thanks for your thoughts !

I wonder what's causing that drop, and who or what is to blame for it.... 🤓

Texas jumps from #9 to #6 - In their season-opening 59-3 rout of UTEP on Saturday, Ehlinger threw five touchdown passes in the first half and completed passes to nine different players.

Gators #5 in AP; #6 in Coaches

No SEC teams have played a game, so all these polls very fluid & of little significance for a few weeks.
