Driskel finally gone

Good kid and he will always be a Gator. Whatever issues he had, the team as a whole had, fall on the feet of the previous head coach and coaching staff. QB development and offensive development have been at a complete standstill at UF for years. Hope he gets some real coaching and an opportunity to play wherever he ends up at.

Driskel was drastically overrated by the recruiting services and shouldn't have been recruited by any member of a Power 5 conference imho.

I wish him the best wherever he may settle. Division 2 or 3 may be where he could excel, if PT is important to him. Good luck Jeff

And as usual under Driskel

Thank you for interjecting class into the thread...it needed some.

I don't understand what Driskel is thinking (then again I've spent four years trying to figure that out). He has a freaking contract lined up with the Red Sox to play ball, what the hell does he think another year of football will get him.

Danny I can't agree more. He has zero chance of an NFL career. Go play baseball, guaranteed contracts, no real contact. My guess is that ego has taken control and he wants to prove he can be a star on the gridiron.

That's the only thing I can think of. It simply doesn't make any sense. The guy is 22 and after 4 years can't seem to admit that it's just not going to happen in this sport.

And I'm biased, because as a Yankees fan I will love to see him on the Red Sox

I watched a no-* QB for ECU put up some 400 yards of passing against us today in our bowl game, and that was coming against a very aggressive defensive pass rush who was hitting him from start to finish.

It doesn't matter how highly recruited they are, it matters how you develop what you have and we really haven't seemed to do any of that in 5 or 6 years at least.

Driskell's biggest problem to this day remains his utterly inaccurate throws.

Best of luck to him wherever he goes. Perhaps he'll work for a free masters degree at Duke, who knows.

But look at the brighter side of things: He drove you to drink, so at least you have that to be grateful to him for. As do the owners of the watering-holes you regularly patronize.

Likewise, many of us Gators should be grateful not only to Driskel, but also to Coaches Weis, Pease, and maybe Roper, although to no one more than former Head-Coach "Boom" Mousefield.

Which brings to mind comedian Dick Martin's cheerful answer, as cohost of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (NBC t.v., 1968--1973), when asked whether or not he drank alcohol: "Only to excess".

What is up with the poodle who started a thread about him going to jawjaw? I won't dignify a poodle by responding to his own thread so I thought I'd mention it here

I wish Jeff the best. He was a true Gator, and no one can doubt he did his best out there.

It is not his fault that his best wasn't very good, and it's also not his fault that we kept playing him.

I admit I was fairly loud in my desire to see him benched in favor of Treon (called for it right after the first game, in fact), but that's just football, not life.

I think like 80% of the top rated QBs never pan out in college - the problem with Driskel was Muschamp kept playing him even when it was clear he was lost out there.

I'm gonna miss Driskel's 5.4 passing yards per attempt.

Some lucky team is gonna land them a stud!!!

This. I'll never understand the dislike for Driskel.

"I'll never understand the dislike for Driskel."

I don't think it is personal as much as it is his play. JD gave his all as a Gator, but he was a major disappointment based on expectation.

I would venture to guess that most everyone wishes great things for Jeff in his post-football career.

Again, this goes on Muchamp for A) poor selections as OC (JD's teachers) and the ensuing revolving door at; B) Choosing the wrong QB (?) between JD & Brisset and C) Not recruiting more QBs to push JD to be better or, failing that replace him in the line up.

JD is what he is. People dislike him because of Muschamp's doings.

Agree on both aspects of this...no hatred for the person, strong dislike for the play....certainly gets an * on the play part to the incompetent coaching staff that sucks at player eval, development, gameplan, and overall getting a team ready to play.

I hope he does alright in life. I think he should try baseball before he is too old which can happen quickly but I don't buy the coaching problem at all. Driskel was just lost and I doubt any coaching could make him look like he knew what he was doing back there.
