No, I don't mean in general.
(So, someone please help revive rhavill, who I am sure fainted when he read that)
I am still, and likely always will be, a firm believer that a star ranking is the most likely predictor of future success.
Well, star rankings and offers, but offers can be a tricky proposition because kids don't always have all the offers they claim and all offers they really have aren't necessarily commitable.
What I am talking about is that at this point in the process, don't dismiss someone because they don't have a lot of stars next to their name or aren't highly ranked in their position group.
It is too damn early to start to count in or count out a potential signee because of their ranking. A few years ago, right now is when we would be seeing the first rankings of 2017 kids. That was then, this is now. Now, the next time they are ranked it will be their third or fourth ranking cycle, which is why there is a lot of movement.
There is a reason for the spring evaluation period, it is to give college coaches and even Rivals analysts a chance to see these kids. It is too early to draw definitive conclusions. Last year at this time kids like Perine and Hammond were three-stars who would get bumped to four-stars later in the process. Then there were three-stars such as Mitchell, Bailey and Tinsdale who were never bumped up and booted from the commitment list.
Basically, my belief in stars is based on the final star ranking, now where they are right now. Don't dismiss or down a kid because he isn't highly rated now, perhaps he hasn't been evaluated. Follow offers (confirmed or not) at this point in the process.
