According to Donovan there was a committee, so myth #1 that SS was doing this on his own is gone.
Second, look at this quote:
“I talked to them quite a bit during this process,” Donovan said. “Scott Stricklin — who is the athletic director there who took over for the athletic director who hired me, Jeremy Foley — we’ve had an unbelievable relationship. They kept me very, very muchinvolved.”

Stricklin did not seek advice on specific candidates, Donovan said, rather what it would take to return the program to national prominence after it had grown stale under White. The Gators were 142-88 and reached four straight NCAA Tournaments until missing out this season.

UF (20-13) visits Xavier (19-13) at 1 p.m. Sunday during the second round of the NIT.

“I talked to them quite a bit during this process,” Donovan said. “Scott Stricklin — who is the athletic director there who took over for the athletic director who hired me, Jeremy Foley — we’ve had an unbelievable relationship. They kept me very, very much involved.”

Donovan hopes his insight helped Stricklin find the right fit in Golden.

“I do think it’s a unique situation there,” Donovan said. “I think it’s a really good situation because of the people that are there. One of the guys that was my trainer was on the search committee, so he had talked to me quite a bit. I think that they were trying to look for a profile.”
