Does the SEC get a 5th team in the tourney?

I wonder if the SEC will get a 5th team in the tourney. I guess if the winner out of the Tenn-Vandy upcoming game finished really strong they might get a bid but I think Bama would have to run the table short of making the SEC tourney championship game with that joke schedule of theirs. I doubt the committee would care even if they went 12-6 in conference play.

Arkansas has the best opportunity imo. Maybe Tennessee. Both have to win out to do it. Again imo. I hope Arkansas does not win out, as they play us at home in just over two weeks.

KY, UF, uSC and ARK are probably the only teams getting in unless another team wins the SEC tournament. Right now in RPI, Kentucky is #8, UF is #10, South Carolina is #30, Arkansas is #33. Vandy & Tennessee are #49 & 50, but they're records are at .500 in conference and barely above .500 overall.

Yea I agree. Last year we were .500 in league play, had 19 wins and did not get in.

I think it was Vandy and Tenn who would maybe get in if they got another big win and finished strong. The committee will take a 10-8 conference team over one that is 12-6 with a really crappy OOC schedule and a low RPI. I think the SEC has had 12-6/11-7 conf record teams left out in recent history.

I think Florida, Kentucky, USCe and Arkansas get in, as long as Carolina doesn't keep dropping games.

Alabama has a shot. A long shot, but a shot.

They're last 4 games are against very mediocre teams and could finish 20-10 before the tournament. If they win a few there they could get in.

Bama's schedule may end their hopes short of a good tourney. Vandy despite the record controls their destiny if they closed out the regular season.

That's true. But like I said, a tourney run after winning out the regular season could get them in. I'm just not sure what that run would have to be.

Semis?

The commit-eeeee! will likely put 7-9 Big 12 teams in again instead. Of course, all but 1-2 of them will be gone before the Sweet 16, while the SEC couple of team will likely make it to the Elite-8 or better.

The SEC owns football, so I guess the NCAA tries to use their bias to even things out for B-Ball.... This has been their M-O for years now.

IMO, the SEC should have 4 for sure, with 1-2 more as a maybe, depending on how they finish their seasons. We'll see. o_O

vandy is the team people think will get in on the rupp board, but they aren't beating both of us to end the regular season... lucky if they win one, their damage would have to be done either by that or both that and in their home town in the SEC Tournament catching fire and hitting a bunch of 3's multiple nights straight with tired legs.

Vandy needs the split for the big win and to have a decent tournament without losing to the lower rung teams and they should just get in I would think. That would give them an RPI in the top 40 I would think also.

Well live RPI projects Vandy at # 41 RPI if they split with us and KY to finish the season so its going to be real close if they get in or not if they win one of these last 2 games and have a decent tournament. Hopefully they knock off KY if they do win one of them.

Sagarin / USAToday Poll

29. SCa
41. Ark
50. UGA
51. VU
------------ Top 64 teams should be in the Dance, Top 50's certainly imo.
60. aTm
61. Tennis-sea
66. Bama
------------ 1-2 of the 60 teams might be a play-in.
72. Miss
80. Aub
96. MsSt
------------- 12 of 14 SEC teams are in the Top 100.
144. Mizz
152. LSU

25. ND
28. scUM
57. tOSU

It's 68 teams in the tourney - and like 31-33 conference champ slots

Assuming that about 12 or so of the conf bids also are in the top 30+ auto-bids, that leaves a numerical cutoff at about 47-49 where teams need to be ranked not 64

Also, they're still using RPI, though next year I think they'll add more weighted computer analytics similar to Sags, but not this year. As per the NCAA RPI, currently only Vandy (beyond the other top 4 SEC teams) has a sub-50 RPI. They have the only legitimate shot now of being team #5 in the dance

58. Choke-la-homa

So I guess that means that the schmuckeyes and the chokers are out of it, right?

I agree with Irish. Big week for vandy. They can play their way in.

If Vandy wants in they better beat us today and win a conference tourney game or they will probably have to win the SEC tournament or at a minimum make the finals with a win over us or Kentucky.

as of right now Vandy would have to win their first game then play UK again on Friday

Not really expecting it but I think we can beat anybody on a given day. A loss before the Sweet 16 will be disappointing.

My two cents:

Vandy won both games against the Gators, but that is a very very solid team we beat. What impresses me most about Coach White is that his scouting and defensive execution is the best in the league by a wide margin imo. Y'all are long, athletic and extremely well coached. Offensively, not as good, but still can be very good with Allen, Hill, Barry and Leon. The sets yesterday where Hill, Allen or Chioza (sp) spread us out and forced us to pick our poison were well designed and executed.

I think Vandy just played a determined game where Luke Kornet, Nolan Cressler and Riley LaChance weren't going to lose on senior night. The bottom line to me is that Florida can be very dangerous in March and I expect big things.

After what happened Saturday, it is very difficult to imagine Florida winning a 4/5 matchup to make it to the second weekend...

We'll see what happens in the SEC tournament and whether they can shake it off.

I think we have a good shot to get to the Sweet 16.

we don't have to shake off fake ref games on the road in neutral site one and done games where we might actually be allowed to shoot FT's too and not watch our opponent be handed 20 more... with the way we can score with a few guys getting hot from one game to the next and be ALLOWED to play defense i expect nothing but getting past the first weekend... especially now with a few losses no one will even be thinking about us or some tough team to beat that everyone wants to see happen. our attention has fallen off with bubblicious rup raisinette ref ball
