Derick Henry

LSU proved what ive been saying all year, they are a nothing one dimensional same team as UGA every year. We lost to them because of a few arm punts with bad calls and bad bounces. Treon threw for almost 300 on them but couldn't complete a 3 yard screen pass against Vandy.

[Muschamp] Wanted Henry at linebacker [at Florida.]
Altho' this thread had already fallen off the first index page of the 'Gator Sports Forum', down to overall position 56 (as of 7 p.m. Nov. 15), readers might be interested to learn that the week-later thread that's cluelessly titled "Is This True?"[*] is also about Derrick Henry. He's now a junior starter at running back for Alabama, after having been a 5-star member of the national recruiting class of 2013.

I expect renewed interest in this guy, as Gator attention turns from FSU to the SEC Championship Game. So it'd be a great idea to have this thread easily recognizable & available for then. Perhaps an ITG moderator would be interested in merging the 2 threads under a title that incorporates the player's name, instead of under the interrogative title that provides zero information?

That kid is a man among men. He's from the greater Jax area, and I think he had Bama in his sights all along.

Yulee High in Nassau County (the N.E.-most county in Florida), as I elaborated in the unneeded parvenue thread about the same player.[*]

[...] and I think he had Bama in his sights all along.
Consider Henry's years playing high-school football[#]; among what he could see happening in college football [##]:
  • 2009/2010 (fr.): 14--0 Bama won "2010" BCS National Championship Game against Texas Longhorns, 37–21.
  • 2010/2011 (so.): 10--3 Bama won "2011" Capital One Bowl against Michigan State Spartans, 49–7.
  • 2011/2012 (jr.): 12--1 Bama won "2012" BCS National Championship Game [do-over] against LSU Tigers, 21–0 [thus awarded the substantial competitive advantage of freedom from the burden of having to prepare for--and win--the SEC Championship Game].
  • 2012/×(e.e. sr.): 13--1 Bama won "2013" BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 42–14.
An amazing act to attempt to follow, whether on the field, or as a recruiter for Bama's rivals or opponents.

Note *: My reply in the one with the clueless title: <http://florida.forums.rivals.com/threads/is-this-true.27674/#post-480548>. Which I think still ought to be moderator-merged with the earlier thread, that being the one with the player's name in the title, in which I'm now replying. Altho' I infer from several sources that the correct spelling of his first name is "Derrick".

Note #: By reckoning backward from him being in the "recruiting class of 2013", but later confirmed by <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derrick_Henry>.

Note ##: Extracted & edited from <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Alabama_Crimson_Tide_football_seasons>, with my added commentary placed within brackets.

Literally an Urban legend. It was Urban that did that. Muschamp wanted a big back like Henry, but by then it was too late. Henry was too interested in what Bama had to offer.

Damn dude, I know Chump is your boy and all, but blaming Meyer for a recruit in the 2013 class. Damn.

But no worries, Chump outsmarted them all and landed Adam Lane. Could I also add that Chump ran off UF signee Ryan Shazier because his 'measurables' didn't meet specifications. Lol, yet a first round NFL pick. Dude was clueless

LOL. These online battles crack me up. Michi y'all have been back and forth for like three years.

When I look at Henry it kind of amazes me. He's got skinny calves just like I do (well, proportionately) :)

He's fast when he hits the second level, but he's not Fournette smashing into the line. No one runs Henry down, but he's considered a power back. Yes he is strong as a bull, but his big runs are after he gets through the line of scrimmage. He's an enigma..huge upper body and skinny legs.....he's more Hershel Walker than a battering ram. Catch hjm behind the line and he's human. Once he gets a head of steam there's no stopping him.
