I have not been told this specifically so this is just kind of me putting 2 and 2 together. So i'll phrase it this way....
I think Greg Smith hitting the portal might be related to Will Harris at Miami tampering with him. I get it from Greg's side, former coach connection and now with a new coach. Smith could very well return and maybe that's part of the 3-4% of kids that Billy referred to as "not under contract" with that comment the other day about having like 96% of our NIL deals done. I hope the NIL offer is reasonable and Smith chooses to return, if his situation goes down the same way as Thornton's.
I think there may have been some of the same with Bryce Thornton behind closed doors possibly hitting the portal here soon, regarding Harris' involvement as well. Bryce tweeted the gator emoji yesterday and @HalleyGator44 sub-tweeted encouraging him to stay(confirming the leaving concerns). Now the context of this Hightop video below makes some sense ("Gators SECURE Top Safety with NIL Agreement") that Bryce tweeted that, in that maybe a new NIL deal got done and he will stay at UF.
Miami has lost Z Patterson to the portal just recently, 2-3 DB's in January, and it appears 2-3 more back in December 24...so they are in need of DB's...And Will Harris knows a few of ours would sting us, and probably thinks of them as easy pickings to get them to Miami.
