Day 1 of the Mullen Era

Man, something just seems right. Never thought I would be saying all this, but there’s just something...
You know he’s changed. He’s not the same guy/coach he was 9 years ago. He’s matured and is very confident. He’s a much better coach Now than he was then He’s really excited to be here and I think he really is a good fit.

I never had the disdain for Mullen some did. But after missing on my dream hire I wasn’t sure I would rebound. But really starting to think this is THE right guy.

Gotta give it to you (for once, maybe only time, lol)....you might be right about Mullen over, in your words, the Cow-chip. You weren't swayed by the shiny object. Dan is more wholesome. And he has 13 straight years SEC experience.

Well jus-damn!
Miracles can actually happen... :D

And btw, I hate correcting people, but it's the cow-Chip...

I never disliked the guy either. I’ve always thought he was a good coach. He had his moments when he was here but that was 10 years ago now as well. I actually think he will be a very good recruiter here at UF which is something he struggled with early on on his career but he was young and not as mature as he is now.

I was huge on chip kelly, he was my top choice, but then I watched chips intro presser today and thought we got the right guy. I forgot about his quirkiness

So looking back, I’ve thought about a few things.

I always remember disliking him for being smug and annoying and a guy who had little genius beyond “run simple plays to some of the greatest players ever.”

What I also remember is mole fans at the time trying to tell us what a POS Meyer was but we were blind to it because of the winnng.

Also, consider this: people, especially when they’re younger, tend to take on the traits of the people they’re around especially who they look up to.

I think I projected a lot distaste for Mullen because I didn’t (want to?) see it in Urban.

He’s been his own man now for a decade and it’s so different. His personality is completely different.

It’s...dare I say...endearing?

No matter how much you may still like Meyer, there was nothing endearing about his personality.

Meyer was so serious all the time. I loved mullens SOS story today.

Urb is my boy.

Urb is still one of the GOAT college coaches. I’m hoping Mullen learned a lot from Urbs and kicks everybody’s butt like Urbie did.

Except for some of the butts that badly needed some kicking,,, i.e. Janoris Jenkings to name just one of them...

Lets just say it.....he is a savage. The anti-Mac

Some REALLY disturbing stuff leaking out about Mac. Wow. Lets just say if it weren’t for the Champ leftovers we would have been f***ed.

Also starting to seem like he was in trouble as soon as Stricklin was hired

And he brushes his teeth, isn't making BBQ sauce, and says more than "duhudhduh this is cool ain't it?" in an interview.
Dan did call Florida a “special” place. sadgator giggled.

sadgator liked it when he was asked about Miss St. next year and he said, that he said that it would be emotional, but that he just wanted to beat them. sadgator was like “whoa.” Dude likes to win.

The “rest up in December” comment was good too.

What happened with Mac? Letting the players run wild?

S&C program was atrocious.

Mac was a fat slob who was peddling BBQ sauce during a damn season (!!!) what makes anyone think that guy paid attention to detail off the field? It was clear as day he didn't on the field. His priority wasn't football. Truth is he saw UF as some kind of retirement job which is why he acted all indignant when UF fans dare not consider him a god for winning poor East divisions while getting blown out by everybody with a pulse. He was out of touch.

Compare and contrast:

Mullen: excited about the challenge of filling the shoes of UF legends, explains vision of a premier program.

Mac: puts feet on desk, says this is cool

Mus: grips podium like he wants to break it, stares angrily.

Don't forget the BELK money either. From day freaking one, he came here to leverage the job for money. Such a flea bag slimeball. I didn't know about the bbq sauce and all the peripheral sh*t until recently but I always thought there was something off and sly about him from his public appearance behind the mic.....he had shifty eyes and was cheeky with all his words. I'm glad he was run outta here but I'm still pissed he MADOFF with millions in salary and buyout, pun intended.

LOL

I'm thinking the Mullen hire is the universe balancing itself out. 2 bad M's and one good, so Mullen was needed for equality.

Any concern Mullen may be another Mark Richt? Win a bunch of games, beat some good teams, lose a handful you're not supposed to, come close to glory, but never getting there....I have to admit this was my concern and why I didn't have Mullen at 1 or 2 on the list.

That was and remains my concern. But I am cautiously optimistic. Plus, he is now the Gator coach and I will support him, unless he proves he is not worthy of support.

In other news;

Randy Shannon, 5 Florida assistant coaches no longer on staff

GAINESVILLE, Fla New Florida coach Dan Mullen made some staff changes Tuesday.

Mullen has decided not to retain interim coach Randy Shannon, offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and assistant coaches Robb Akey, Corey Bell, Kerry Dixon II and Greg Nord, sources close to the situation told SEC Country.

Brad Davis, Chris Rumph, JaJuan Seider and Tim Skipper are still on staff and will be on the road recruiting this week. Their future roles are still to be determined and theres no timetable for any official announcements.

SEC Country has confirmed that Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy are now on Floridas staff, following Mullen over from Mississippi State.
