Jim McElwain becomes winningest first-year coach in Florida history

Add another impressive feat for Jim McElwain in his first year with the Florida Gators.

After the Gators’ win over the Florida Atlantic Owls, McElwain has now won the most games (10) in his first season with the Gators than any other coach in program history. Previously, there was a four-way tie for first place with Urban Meyer (2005), Steve Spurrier(1990), Galen Hall (1985) and Ray Graves (1960) all winning nine games in their first season in Gainesville.

Florida’s win over Florida Atlantic wasn’t pretty, but as McElwain says, the Gators just keep finding ways to win. Obviously, the performance wasn’t great on Saturday, but the win doesn’t show up any differently than the team’s other nine wins this season.

The Gators will try for 11 wins when they host the Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 28.

Damn, this man is funny

Mac: "You know when you go to the grocery store and you see those dead fish on ice? That's what they look like. How excited are you hanging out with those dead fish?"

I really wish you all would lighten up a bit. He seems like a really good coach and a genuinely likeable guy.

this coming from a guy who's head coach can't grow sideburns and still picks his nose.
And that patch on the top of his noggin.....CUT IT OFF JIMBO, CUT IT OFF!!!!! This reminds me of an episode on Seinfeld somewhere....

Here we go a nolie rags on our head coach and we don't ban him? Man this site has changed since I was a moderator.

I swear watching that presser from yesterday was one of the funniest ever...the whole 'dead fish' talk was the best. Of course our play on offense was pathetic but Coach Mac's comments were spot on and hilarious...that was freaking great!

Sometimes they look bad and sometimes they don't. Maybe it's the contrast on my t.v.
No SoProud is right...but he's a regular and it wasn't a shot at Mac...I've been thinking the same thing all season...you're right though...sometimes it's not as bad as others. Either way I love the guy...he's done such a great job this season and his pressers are entertaining.

Yeah, sorry about that pass. That topic hits close to home for me. That's tough for everyone involved and Jimbo appears to be handling it OK.

But, that patch. SMH.....

Graves (1960): 9-2
Hall (1985): 9-1-1 (Note: he was 8-0 in the 1984, the year he took over for Pell.)
Spurrier (1990): 9-2
Meyer (2005): 9-3

McElwain (2015): 10 (AND COUNTING)-1

Yeah, but the other three didn't have that "gimme game" that Mac had yesterday to get to 10.
