I will say this before anything else and that’s my outright hate of Notre Dame. So, Alabama, Georgia, O.S.U, Oklahoma and CU have to play games this weekend as they are in the Power 5 conferences with Championship games while the Irish sit at home waiting to see who they’ll play in the playoff. It’s not fair especially to Alabama and even Georgia. Both would be in given the rankings from last night.

Scenarios:

1. Bama:
They win and they are in. They lose anything but a big blowout and IMO they are in. Their only loss would be to the #4 ranked team. Better than O.S.U.’s 49-20 loss to Purdue or Oklahoma’s loss to Texas. But, that would mean 2 SEC teams, Notre Dame and Clemson when they destroy Pitt. Think anyone will be pissed by that outcome? If Bama loses and isn’t in, then why play a championship game if it can cost you the playoff despite winning every game by 20+ points?

2. Notre Dame:
Their in and I hope they get Bama. B U M S.

3. Georgia:
Win and they are in. I don’t see another path without several upsets on Saturday.

4. Clemson:
Win in/lose out: They’ll beat Pitt by 28 easily.

5. OSU:
The Dirty Rat as my 84 year old mother calls Urban Meyer, has to beat Northwestern ( they should) and then hope Alabama wins while Oklahoma either loses or they look better beating Northwestern. I don’t see them jumping Bama if they lose given their 29 point loss to The Purdue Boilermakers. Or Clemson loses but, they won’t do, I won’t go there.

6. Oklahoma:
Must avenge their only loss this year to Texas, then have OSU and UGA lose. Maybe if they beat Texas 67-21 and Ohio St. wins 13-10 they could get in if Georgia loses but, I doubt it given the O.S.U. clout I feel given the last rankings.

7. U.C.F. Place a bet on these scenarios and see what kind of odds you’d get in Vegas:
A. Bama beats Georgia soundly.
B. Ohio State loses.
C. Oklahoma loses.
D. Clemson loses.
E. Without McKenzie Milton the Knights beat Memphis in the AAC Championship Game ( they beat them 31-30 WITH Milton during the regular year ) soundly.
Would they get in over a 2 loss ( L.S.U and Alabama ) Georgia? I think they would given how in 2017 they beat the team ( Auburn ) who beat the teams ( Bama and Georgia) who played the last game of the year.

Ugh, exhausting but, who on this list had NOTHING to worry about? The Notre Dame “Non” Fighting Irish. The system punished those who play in Power 5 Conferences and rewards one team who doesn’t?

Again, I hate Notre Dame. I’d root for any S.E.C. team to beat them.

I am a win your damn conference type of thinker on this since the playoff is only 4 teams.

I would have had OSU in last year over Bama despite the extra loss due to that and them having the better wins than Bama. I know Bama looks great on the eye test but unless you have a much better wins resume I would always take a 1 loss conference champ over the 1 loss team that failed to win their own conference.

As far as Notre Dame stuff happens but the same system might fail them eventually when its an argument among 1 loss teams and the other team gets an extra good opponent to build their resume.

Here's what a cowardly program Notre Dame is.

1966. Last game of the season.

#1 - Notre Dame 9-0
#2 - Michigan State 9-0
#3 - Alabama 9-0

Notre Dame and Michigan State play each other in the last game of the season. Tie ball game, Michigan State punts to Notre Dame who gets the ball at midfield with 2 mins left.

And Notre Dame.......takes a knee and runs the clock out. Voters keep Notre Dame at #1 and Michigan State at #2. Both the Irish and Spartans then REFUSE to play in a bowl. Both stay #1 and #2.

Bama wins the Iron Bowl, then goes on to hammer #5 Nebraska in the Orange. End up the only undefeated and untied team in the nation. Bryant said it was his best team, but no NC.

ND ran out the clock cause they knew as long as they didn't lose, media would never drop them, and they didn't.

BTW interesting sidenote. In 1965, Alabama won their bowl game and went back to Tuscaloosa and went to bed. They woke up the next morning and there was a note on their dorm hall:

"Congratulations, 1965 National Champions. Tomorrow, let's start working on the next one.

Paul Bryant"

That's how they found out they won the NC in 65. Different time lol

Which is bizarre to me.

Every Bama fan I know says "we could claim the 66 title but we don't."

Um....why don't you?

Isn’t Oklahoma ahead of Ohio State in the current rankings?

I don’t see the Buckeyes jumping the Sooners if both win. Ok would be avenging their only loss, against a stronger opponent than OSU plays. I’d say only way in for OSU is Bama win and either Clemson or Oklahoma lose.
