The CFP, which originally was set to announce its final rankings on Dec. 6, will now release the list on Dec. 20, executive director Bill Hancock confirmed Monday.

The committee will begin to reveal its weekly rankings on Nov. 17 and release six top-25 polls throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

The top four teams will participate in playoff semifinals on Jan. 1 (Rose Bowl Game and Sugar Bowl). The winners will then meet in the national championship game, which will take place on Jan. 11 at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

Looks like the SEC will invade the Rose & Sugar Bowls with a chance for an all SEC final in Miami

It will be amazing to watch the Big 10 flipping out when these rankings are released.

Sad.

Since Gary Barta, the Chair of the CFP Selection Committee, is also the Director of Athletics for the University of Iowa, a Big 10 member school & since the Big 10 can't play football this year, should he be replaced ?

Or, does that make him more of a neutral when the rest of the committee is locked into a serious debate about the 4th CFP participant ?

Right now, I would say 2-SEC schools, Clemson, & who knows what school from the Big 8.

Could also be the 3 conference champs & 1 Group of 5.

Remember the 2007 Fiesta Bowl - Boise State's OT upset of Oklahoma - 43-42. One of the best games I have ever seen !

If the Big 10 moves ahead with their plan to start the season in October, the CFP move to Dec 20 will dovetail with that. Makes you wonder if there wasn't some behind the scenes discussions and maybe the October start date had been pondered privately for a while before it was made public.

There are two really positive things to come out of this:

1. In regular years, once we get past Thanksgiving, it’s kinda sad because the season is pretty much over for most teams and the match-ups start to suck. This year with the conference only schedule the games in December are going to be HUGE, and it will be a very exciting time to be watching these games.

2. With the December 20 final ranking, there won’t be as long of a layoff between the end of the season and the playoffs. We’ll get a more accurate representation of the teams playing at their best, The regular month long gap between the final rankings and playoffs is one of sadgator’s main complaints, so this year, that is fixed.

...and if the Big 10 plays in October, sadgator will be shocked. Really can’t see that happening. If it does, look for the Committee to adjust the ranking dates. It is simply insane that in the year 2020, D1 college football is not uniform in its rules applicable to leagues. Probably a good thing for us here...but just sayin’...

Not sure what you mean about Thanksgiving. That's rivalry week (FSU week for us, of course) , the week the season ends for everybody. Then we get the conference title games, and Army-Navy, then bowl season. How do the matchups start to suck? Season's over.

There’s always a couple of crappy games around, between, or before the rivalry week and the Championship games. Then you have the shitty bowls...in early mid December. That’s what sadgator was taking about...

And for as much as sadgator understands that Army-Navy is a “big” deal...like c’mon...nobody’s settin’ the DVR for that...

Agreed on the October start date for the Big10. I believe this is just trying to keep pushback to a dull roar.

I used to be a purest about college football. Make the bowl system/playoff uniform for even the G5 teams. I think we are past that at this point. I wish the power five (add a 6th if need be, bring back the SWC) would create their own division. Force Notre Dame to join a conference and make their own rules. The NCAA cannot be trusted to enforce anything at this point. A fresh start is needed since the NCAA has been unable to keep up with a judiciary system that has and is forcing college football to change and redefine amateurism.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta says he's not aware of any pending vote by Big Ten presidents to reconsider fall football. Says it would take "miracle" to be able to start a season by October, but the goal is to return to play as safely as possible

Barta’s comments are similar to those from his Nebraska counterpart, Bill Moos. Earlier this week, Moos said there is “nothing to” the Oct. 10 rumors.

The Hawkeyes and Huskers are two of the three programs whose schools voted to play football this fall, ahead of the Aug. 11 postponement. They were joined by Ohio State, whose players have been among the loudest in the “We Want To Play” movement. At Iowa, Barta reportedly “fought like hell” to try and keep the season on the schedule this fall.
Iowa has bills to Pay ! LOL

It appears the Big 10’s wheels are coming off. It’s a shame too since, other than Clemson and a couple of teams in the Big 12 they had some teams with a shot this year. The administration has really blown this. They should have started practicing and took the wait and see approach. I hate it for the kids.

I hate it for the kids, coaches, schools and for me too. it's crazy stuff.

Well, the real crazy thing is that there was a slate of games yesterday...although the health effects from the virus are real...there is a way to do this “relatively safely” and still play. It is simply ridiculous that the Big 10 gave up so quick. The league should have given those B10 schools who wanted to play a one-year exemption to go play each other independently and to add teams from the AAU, BYU, or other Non-conference teams looking for other teams to play. That would have been fair to them. Instead, they literally forfeited an entire season....

All of this BS isn't solving nothing. It's not even a huge problem in my mind...not to the extremities that it's gone too. I'll respect other and wear a mask but this is ridiculous.
