Think of all the coaches who's career has been resurrected by Saban. Yet Grantham on staff and they are having one of their worst years in a while. The Saban Aura has meet its match. Irresistible force meets immovable object.
To be fair he’s not on the on-field staff. He’s an analyst. Bammers hate the current DC but they know they don’t want 3nG either.
So is Saban in a decline the same way Lou Holtz was in his final years at ND and USCe? He's starting to remind me of Don Shula, who felt too loyal to can his assistants for upgrades. Saban always knew how to build a staff from scratch going back to the day he was hired at LSU, when he didn't have one assistant follow him to Baton Rouge.
As a lifelong Dolphins fan, I only wished it would have worked out for him in the NFL.
Just my opinion, but some of his hires in recent years have been more for recruiting than development. Usually Bama would out-talent eveyone, and the players were physically NFL ready. But at times you’d see Saban be just average at game day stuff and people like Meyer and Malzahn weee able to beat him on scheme.
then with Kirby recruiting the way he has, Saban rocused even more on winning that war and less on the coaching side. By no means is Bama over. Ive seen too many times when Georgia had him beat and they roar back. It’s just funny how a 2 loss season for them is cause for wringing of hands when most everyone else would sign up for that every year.
That's just proves my point. His ooze isn't just coming from the sideline but has to travel all the way from the football offices!
Dolphins fan here as well. If they (the owners) hadn’t meddled in his process and had signed Drew Brees like he wanted then we would have a dynasty in the dolphins instead of the tide.
He hasn't coached the Phins since 2006 but the thought of not having Drew Brees still pisses me off.
It tough to know how to feel on some of these announcements. Hate to see a guy go, but did he decide to leave or was he asked to go to make roster space and the young guys were going to take away any PT he might have gotten? In that case, best for him and us of he goes, and wish him the best, except against us.

Along with Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. His jersey number(52) is very difficult to not notice anywhere near an opposing ball carrier.
