I had pacifist parents. My father didn't see the irony of whipping my ass for getting into fights at school.
So I took more than my fair share of beatings and join the Marines where I gained thirty pounds of muscle.
I don't tote a lot of beatings anymore. 😁
EW, I was in the skinny but wiry & scrappy category.
In my entire HS PE, there were only 2 of us that could lift and press our own weight.
Childhood, in and out of the house, was often violent, youngest of 4.
Both parents lived by the
'spare the rod, spoil the child' -- more than needed imo...
They quoted this a lot Deu 5-16: Honor your Father and Mother...
But I quoted this back to them, Eph 5-6: Fathers provoke not your children to wrath...
You can just imagine how well that went over with them...
😁
I grew up in a tough neighborhood in the East end area of Ybor City (Tampa).
Entered Boot Camp at 6-0 138. Thought the obstetrical course was a way too easy joke.
Exited Service 4 years later at 6-1.5 185 with the wind of a marathon runner.
I had to look TIRED up in the Websters to see what the word meant....
🤔
Now, the old man conversations mostly begin with,,, "I can remember when...." 😉
