And so while we were sleeping and worried about the illuminati, this happened....

A very good thing!

We have at least as much talent at WR this year as last year now, although less experienced.

Copeland and Grimes are going to be the starters, and they have experience and proven ability. Combine them with Pitts and that's a lethal trio. Add Toney in the slot and teams are going to wet themselves when they see us line up.

But now with Shorter and Pouncey both being eligible, that's some quality depth with collegiate experience, which we were lacking before. We have several talented youngsters, but you can't count on them until you see it happen on the field. But I think Henderson and Fraziars have too much talent to be left out, and Wells may get some time too. That's 8 WR's, and who knows what other guy may jump up.

Liking it!

I agree that we are very talented at the skill positions. But like it has for the last 10+ years, the ultimate success of the offense against quality teams is going to be the performance of the O-line. Like Spurrier, Mullen's play calling compensates for some of the shortcomings; but to beat Georgia, LSU, Alabama, etc. the O-line has to play well. If they continue to build on last year, this could be a special offense.

Well yeah, the Oline is always a key component, but let's admit that we had a stretch where our skill guys weren't overly skilled, to the point that even the best Oline in the country doesn't do all that much for us.

Transfers rarely work out well but hes a good risk to take.

Transfers are certainly hit or miss, but I wouldn't go so far as to say rarely. Maybe 50-50.

But I will say that if you are counting on a transfer to come in and be a star right away, yeah, that happens rarely. Particularly at QB. Except if you are Oklahoma, of course.

But for Shorter, we are just looking for a 4th or 5th WR to come in, give a starter a breather, and maybe catch a couple balls. There's no reason to think he can't meet that expectation.

LG89,

Saw the news on Shorter, buy hadn't seen anything on Pouncey.

Is that official ? If so when did it happen ?

Pouncey controlled his own fate; all he had to do was graduate from lower division & get admitted to a UF Grad School & he would get an automatic waiver as a Grad Transfer.

Did he graduate or did he get an NCAA waiver or is he still in lower division & hoping for a waiver ?

Sorry, I just assumed that, as a grad transfer, all was well. Since school started, if he hadn't gotten into grad school would he even be in school, and therefore on the team, atall?

Joe Burrow was a transfer. He worked out pretty good too.

OU has done pretty good with transfers as well. Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray & Jalen Hurts. The transfer portal is a big part of college football now.

OK does well with QB's that were trained and coached up elsewhere, and playing against the excuse for defense in the Big-12-10-whatever.

With the Riley Coyote's own QB recruits, not so much... 😏

Heck what is interesting is the last 3 Heisman Trophy winners have all been transfers (Mayfield/Murray/Burrow)

That is interesting but there are hundreds that dont work out each yr.
Yes but when is the last time transfers won 3 Heisman‘s in a row. Whether you like it or not the transfer portal has now become a big part of college football. Transfers are working out at a much higher rate now because of the portal. There are hundred of football players in general that don’t work out each year. The success rate of a transfer is certainly greater now than ever before.

There are more signees that never transferred that don't work out as well.

It's all part of the game. Hit or miss.

True but most of the time transferring is for playing time and you hope to gain a starter or depth piece. People who get 5 star transfers typically dont work out because if they were that good they would be starting at the school they were at. Yes there is plenty of anecdotal evidence where situations worked out but the majority of transfers are typically not impactful players. Doesnt mean it cant happen but its not the norm. Which makes sense because typically you dont have glaring holes where guys can transfer and start right away. Even FSUs transfers arent starting lol well.... One is on the o line but hes just as bad as the guy after him
