And LSU hires….

Desperation hire. Don't think you could try to come up with a worse fit. Let's go get a cop coach from the ivory towers of academia and bring him down here to instill his culture into the program. Gimme a break. When Nick heard that he just rolled over and went back to sleep. Gone in two years tops!

Kelly is 3-8 against opponents ranked in the top 10 at Notre Dame. Five of the eight losses were by 14 points or more

Notre Dame is 3-20 against top-five teams, including a 0-5 record against those teams in bowl matchups

Kelly isn't a slam dunk hire but he has done good at ND for the past 5 years. He probably won't be out talented at LSU in too many games so he can show how good of a coach he actually is.

With the really weak schedule that ND typically plays he’s very rarely out talented in any games he has played until he gets to the playoffs. That’s a different story in the SEC and the talent margin is much closer.

Heck maybe you’re one of those too young to remember.

lol, not too young, perhaps too old. I’ve never heard of that dude until his movie came out in the 90’s. I’ve certainly have heard of the other hallmarks of ND football most of my life…. My uncle walked onto the ND football team as a practice player for a year.

But, if ND is now holding up Rudy as part of their “branding”, then they’re in more trouble than i thought, lulz!

I kinda wonder if he views LSU as his swan song. He has to know that it will be much more difficult to get to the playoffs. He likely doesn't need the money.

At least at LSU He can ride out his last coaching years without freezing his butt off.
I think he has to think of it that way. If he goes down there and blows up there’s no guarantee he’ll get another shot

There's just so much wrong with all of this [situation] and so much right in this article.

The Tigers job, of course, opened in October because the school fired its coach, Ed Orgeron, just a season and a half after he led LSU to a national title. This is still mind blowing. Hell the guy literally won the 2019 AP College Football Coach of the Year Award and Home Depot Coach of the Year Award and was canned a year and a half later? What a $hitty message this sends.

Was it the sexual harassment situation surrounding Derrius Guice? If so, would it have been an issue had Ed not gone 5-5 the year prior? SO many questions.

Lets state the obvious. Talent and assistants won that NC. Yes Ogre assembled the cast. He isn't winning awards for being a coaching genius.

I don't think many believed he could do it again. He has the ring, the money and got to coach at his LSU.

LSU has the title. Win-Win

But everyone wants a program that competes every year for the SEC.

The 7am meeting lasted 10 minutes. I get it.....ultimately it's a business. I get it......many coaches may not spend that much time on a farewell meeting, if at all.

Even still, as a simple fan of another team, I'm a little irked. If I'm irked then I'm sure there weren't many hearty "Take care of yourself"s, "I will miss you"s, and "Go on, and show them what you're made of"s.

Do you have a link for that? I am not calling you out. I am just interested in getting a little more info on that.

My sources say that we settled on Billy Napier very quickly. I would just like to see if what I have been told is true.
Had to be quick, trying to salvage not only the incoming class, but prevent a mass transfer exodus.

CBN checked all the boxes, young, energetic, (hopefully a) great recruiter; looking to inject some excitement into Gator football. Wouldn't have taken Brian Kelley on a bet. He might do great in Baton Rouge, I just don't think he'd have been a good follow to Mullen.

The only thing that makes sense about Kelly to LSU is the high Catholic population.

Alternatively, he won't be able to win 9 games a year just on talent like he did at ND. LSU has more talent than ND, but LSU's opponents have a LOT more talent than ND's opponents did during the Kelly era.

BINGO! You nailed it! I think Kelly is a good coach but he isn’t going to have a cream puff schedule anymore.

All you hating on Kelly must realize he has won big at all levels and been to a CFB playoff, which we have not

Rather than hating on Kelly because LSU didn’t completely whiff, lets hope out gamble pays off

Don't hate Kelly any more. Hate Notre Dame, and so hated him by association, but that's over.

If we go out and start beating LSU now, heck, I might just start to like the guy!

I think that might be why - he can get to the CFP at ND, but gets schit-smacked once he sees an SEC team. He probably understands
He needs both the increased talent, reduction in academic restrictions, and the best opponents to forge a team that’ll actually get there and then win

Its gonna be interesting to see how this deal plays out.
I remember all that talk about the kid who died during a Notre Dame practice back a few years ago. He was told to get up in a cherry picker or on some stand or somethign and film practice.

Some folks blamed Kelly for practicing outside after gettng warned.

I don’t know the personality is a fir.

but to act like he has never done anything is silly

he has WON AT ALL LEVELS

He's a 60 year old Yankee who's about to be the king of the bayou.

Fit matters. I thought we realized that by now.

100 million for 10 years. As good of a coach as kelly is, there's only one coach in the nation that deserves that kind of contract and he's living in Alabama.

Btw, Jimbo hasn't really earned his pay and his buyout is 45 million. I wonder if Kelly's would top that.

And people like to laugh at UF for going through another coaching change? Better to do that than be firmly committed to a coach for a decade who hasn't proven it yet at your school....and maybe never will. Imagine paying 100 million to possibly go an average of 8-10 wins a year with maybe 2 or 3 years actually winning the division.

You missed the point. It’s all part of the so called ND brand.

You're absolutely right.

30 years ago, at 8 years old, without having any personal fanhood, without watching a single full football game,...... knew that somebody playing for Notre Dame was supposed to be a big deal.

Even an ignorant kid who had never left the state of Florida untill years later knew that much.

Totally different on how people view the brand in modern times. If I were to wager a guess.....even the folks who live up North don't view playing for Notre Dame the same way as the years of old.

Yea, high school bands play the domer's fight song, but its likely tradition only or just a "eeeh, why not?"
