And if you're looking for a positive on Mcelwain...

Looks like the same kind of thing that Spurrier would do for his former players.
It shows that coaches commitment to the their players doesn't end with their playing time... o_O -- And outside of their sports, the Gator's World Wide Network will also always be there for the former player, student/athletes.

That's a 3 star QB that Mc coached up into a 3rd round NFL draft pick to the Saints.
Also, Mc's former NC/NFL QB at UA says nothing but good things about him.

"If you're a really good coach, 20 years later your players will still want to spend time with you."

Well he hasn't got shit out of the QBs here and that is what we are paying him for. I could give a rats ass about his former players, they aren't making him a good recruiter or bring wins so who cares. Nice that he will have something to do when we hire Chip Kelly I guess

I like to pull for people, especially Gators, who do the right thing and McElwain sure seems to be one of those men. Pat Dooley, in his article today, showed that Coach Mac has the 2nd best SEC record after his first 2 years (13-3) than any Gator coach, behind Spurrier's 14-2. I think it's premature to be trashing the guy. Whether or not he's a top tier recruiter will show with results on the field over the next couple of years and I'm wishing him only the best.

That stat might mean something if the SEC East wasn't so bad the past 2 seasons and we didn't get destroyed in the SECCG both times.

Hell I think Zook went 12-4 in SEC play his first 2 years but Georgia was a top 5 team those 2 years going into the SECCG.

Decent points. But remember when Spurrier came to Florida his wide open style took the conference by storm and he blitzed the league for a while until defenses caught up. So there are always rationales about how and why coaches win or lose games. All we can go by is the record and so far Mac's is pretty good IMO.

You make a good point but it just feels bad with Mac when you get hammered by FSU and in the SECCG both years to finish up the season pre-bowl game. I haven't totally given up on him but will be close to it if he doesn't salvage a top 5 SEC class and have a QB that can compete next year.

To paraphrase, we have Mark Richt

we have only not been smashed by one ranked team we played recently and that was because LSU shot themselves in the foot too many times to count while still having over 500 yards of offense, they even botched the final play from the inch yard line like they did many times that game to seal it for us.. We shouldn't need all time luck to finally beat a team and the way the end of the game went summed up our staff when we should have put them away on both sides of the ball. FSU is ahead of us on the field, off and murdering us in facilities. FSU should NEVER be ahead of UF with money for the football program EVER or even close. We are getting hammered in every way by just them that's not even mentioning all the teams on our schedule. I don't know if anyone posted it here about HS coaches talking about why we are so behind in recruiting and even with our new facility going up we will still be playing catch up for YEARS in facilities for all teams. Now on a few services Smart has the #1 class, this staff better get it all together, and fast. If there isn't a QB this year that's just even decent they are as good as done no matter what the fans keep trying to play it as

Too bad that for years now, Mc has let the UF facilities fall so far behind...

Only UF coach to ever win 10 games in his 1st season.
Voted SEC CoY by his fellow SEC coaches,,, what a no talent bum...

Exceeded expectation in both of his 1st two years, so it's a good thing that he didn't go 6-7 wins and finish 5th in the SECe, or he'd have been tared and feathered by the 'entitled' fans for sure.
And it's another good thing that he didn't go 7-8 wins in his 2nd season and 3rd in the SECe,,, otherwise there'd be 'entitled' fans here calling for his firing while calling Foley a fooley for ever hiring him.

The #91 class when he arrived, but he finished with a #21 class including 2 Five stars.
Improved 9 places with the #12 class in his 2nd year, proving than he'll never be even a decent recruiter. (what a pile of 'entitled' fan crap). o_O

Those aren't my opinions those are from other coaches that obviously know the difference between our program and FSU's along with others right now...

And how long as Satan been at Bama?
How long has Jimblow been at reFSUcks?

And are they constrained somewhat in their recruiting by UF's standards?
They all offer some of the same players, but not all of them.

If they want to get paid, of if they are borderline thugs, then UF has to be very careful in shipping them. And yes, some will always slip through the cracks, but don't attempt to tell me that it's anything near to a level playing field in recruiting. o_O

Smart has been there one year and has the #1 class on some sites right now

Yeah, and UGA has had 'top rated' in the services raters minds for decades now. How has their 'service recruit ranking' worked out for then at the WLOCP?
The Retch supposedly out recruited Mc both years and still lost both times.
Mc played with 2 transfer 'also-rans' while UGly had 5 star Eason, the results of that was UF 24 - 10 UGly.

I ain't 'skeered' of no leghumping butt-sniffers... :D

he faced richt once and smart had a freshman QB and zero OL, they will be much better and all these teams keep getting more talent than us at some point it's going to hurt us.. That's just one school that directly affects us, but a big one.

Sorry, my mistake. Mc did beat both the Retch and ole Smartie-pants. :D

But he did it with Five Star QB's and and the marvelous OL that the x-Ugly Chump left him.
And of course, UGly didn''t have any RB's to help them out either...

NBD. Many times in the past I've thanked those that took the time to post the correct info when I had a momentary brain fart. I've never claimed perfection here.

It was not Mac that let other programs pass us in infrastructure. Hell, he was the one that went past Foley directly to Fuch and demanded that Florida catch up.

Foley, for all his accomplishments, was a detrement to UF football. He would have done great at a place like Stanford where they celebrate all sports equally. He hurt us in SEC football country

All 3 of our national titles and SEC championships came under Foley's tenure. As a Gator alumni ('73) I and many people I know celebrate all our athletic programs equally. I recognize that it is football that is the engine that runs the machine, but the overall, consistent success of UF's athletic program is unparalleled. And while Zook & Muschamp were misses, we all need to remember that Muschamp was THE hot commodity at the time of his hiring and most Gators were thrilled to get him. I think some wanted us to hire Rich Rodriguez at the time! What a bonehead move that would have been. I'm still amazed at how quickly some are ready to throw McElwain out after 2 years of going to the SEC title game. Give the guy a chance.

Those high school coaches in that ESPN article were garbage sources. Trinity's coach is a Nole and Armwood's was the DB coach's father that Mac ran off. You probably wont get uplifting comments from those kind of sources about the Gator program. I hope UF closes strong in this class. Lord knows we need some more talent.

Everyone I have seen post says UGA facilities are worse than ours???

I have heard a few say that but I know before the IPF was built most of those lists would have Georgia listed a little above us facilities wise. It seemed the only teams that always were listed below us in the SEC were SC and Vanderbilt.

There is a former Gator player that posts occasionally on another site and he said he was going to be a Gator no matter what but it really shocked him when he did a visit to UCF of all places and how much nicer the dorms were for the players there compared to Florida and they actually had an IPF at the time he said when Florida didn't. They also got twice a week maid service in their living quarters unlike UF. lol

We now have an IPF and have upgraded the living quarters but its still crazy that was the case at one time a few years back.

UCF has all that Disney money thrown their way.
