Alligators chomp Seminoles in top 3 showdown @ softball.

And everything is as it should be.
Sweep them in baseball, and swat them in softball... :p

The #3 ranked Gators (38-2) answered the bell against another Top 25 opponent, their 16th to be exact. reFSUcks (38-2-1) entered the contest as the #1 ranked team in the country and with NCAA leading marks in both batting average and on base percentage.

The criminoles came in with the 3rd best scoring offense in the country averaging 7.88 runs per game. They left the 'ville' having scored a goose-egg. The Gators gave them a shut out for the first time in their last 29 games and recorded the Gators 9th shut out over a Top 25 opponent this season.

The unstoppable force (FSU) met the unmovable object (UF). The result was that the criminoles turned out to be stoppable after all.... ;)

The nation's best pitching staff (UF) was doing work in the circle and the nation's best fielding defense (UF) provided stout backup in the field as the Gators produced eight assists on the night. 2017 USA Softball Player of the Year Finalist Gourley's night ended at the end of the 5th inning on 72 pitches and 7 strikeouts with zero walks.

Sophomore Kelly Barnhill (16-0), another 2017 USA Softball Player of the Year Finalist and the nation's leading pitcher in ERA (0.22), :eek:o_O:eek: relieved Gourley in the 6th inning of play and slammed the door shut on the Seminoles. Barnhill struck out 3 and issued only 1 walk without giving up a hit through 2 innings of work.

The player (Kayli Kvistad) with the NCAA's #2 OBP .599 got the 'walk-off' RBI hit to right center to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning. :p

The sell-out crowd (2,547) went home happy, except for the criminole fans that made the trip anyway...
