This is interesting because you could argue this either way. The ACLU is not sticking up for the teachers who are potentially being denied work because of their beliefs but the ACLU is also sticking up for the transgender community so you could argue that this is ethically and morally consistent with their mission

Betraying their principles for sticking up for their principles?
Interesting how a new story could argue this either way.

Selective sticking-up-for. Simply put, compelled speech is bad.
I've always respected Brett Weinstein. Even though he has always voted left, undoubtedly he will get labeled as a right-winger now.

No doubt. And I agree with your sentiment on compelled speech. There in lies the biggest difference to me. Sticking up for a wrong is a lot different than trying to force morality on to somebody else with no wrong present.

Especially when you get into subjective morality. After all, if someone uses preferred pronouns as a function of coercion, then the act isn't moral at all. It is just compliance. For the act to be truly moral, it must be completely voluntary.

They have forgotten the meaning of “rights.” You have a right to the freedom of expression. There is no such thing as a right to have other people refer to you by your preferred pronouns.

This is what happens when you let people, instead of God, decide their gender. If you went with God's decision, there would be no confusion or issue.

Has nearly nothing to do with God, but thank you for your comments.

Maybe you have no religion, so we will call it science/genenics, but still not a personal choice, one that was already decided upon birth. Use the pronouns you were born with until you take the medical steps to change.

Except you can not change chromosomes. So maybe we just need to label bathrooms xx and xy. use ai and dna to determine which you are and only unlock the doors if you have the matching genetics. Same with sports etc.

That’s a good way to put it. I do have a firm belief in God and a firm belief in science and I believe Science derives from God’s will. I believe religion is more of a man-made cultural construct which, if you take my original thought to extremes, you could also say is derived from God but then all religions are which is what makes it interesting to a cultural anthropologist.
