70....

Could we, would we, should we?

sadgator has a feeling Mullen and crew are gonna want to make people pay attention today...in a good way...not sure why, but we’ll see...

Yeah you REALLY KNOW FOOTBALL Sad! Gonna call out the women’s soccer game score next? 8-0?

Yep. We lost to UGA 14-3 but the game was not as close as the score would indicate. Towards the end of the game, we started a drive around own 10 yard line and it took nearly five minutes of game clock to get to midfield. The drive stalled out and that was effectively the ballgame right there.

Don’t get me wrong, Stoops certainly wants to win, but he’s extremely stubborn in his mindset. He’s basically going with the 1970s Big 10 strategy of smash mouth run oriented FB.

I guess any coach is within their right to go with whatever philosophy they choose, and that’s ok as long as they win.

The UK fan base is starting to get restless and there’s a concern that Stoops has reached his ceiling. There are issues that I won’t get into here, but I think the decisions he makes between now and the start of next season will go a long way in determining whether he retires from UK or whether he’s unemployed 2-3 years down the road.
Is the UK fan base being too unforgiving given the circumstances this season? I thought it was the penalties against UF in the second half that cost you the game. All discipline just got sucked out of the team and the snowball grew. When you’re down that many players controlling the clock benefits a thin roster as much as it keeps the ball out of a Heisman contenders hands.

I haven’t watched much of UK this year but Stoops has done really well in building the program up. Hate to think this year would be held too heavily against the guy.

The 2018 season is definitely his ceiling. He will never take UK to Atlanta. There will always be a top team in the East to take them down and even if they somehow make it there will always be an LSU, Auburn, or Bama to administer a whooping in Atlanta.

Stoops’ momentum ran out. He has no vision to sell anymore and it is clear his neanderthal offenses will not attract top talent.

That is the problem sometimes with former DCs being head coaches is they run these Big 10 1970s offenses because it is “safe” and helps their defense. They just sometimes have the wrong mentality. Saban was even like that but he has evolved with the way the game is being played and adapted.

Has Stoops reached his ceiling, or has Kentucky?

I think it is Kentucky. What do they expect? Hell will have to freeze over before they ever win the East. UF/UGA and UT would all have to be down and even then South Carolina and Mizzou took advantage and won the East. UK and Vandy have never won the East.

Kentucky reached its ceiling. Again they must strike ala Carolina in 2010 in a year where the other East teams are down, which isn’t often (notice how South Carolina has not come close to sniffing Atlanta since then). And even then they will probably face what is a likely national championship contender in Atlanta.

Kentucky fans talking about getting rid of Stoops remind me of Illinois fans getting rid of Zook back in the day. He took them to a Rose Bowl in his 3rd season (beating #1 Ohio State along the way) and overall 3 bowl games in his 7 season tenure, winning 2 (although the final win was with an interim coach), but he wasn't playing for the Rose Bowl every year, so they canned him. Since Illinois has averaged less than 4 wins a season since then (never winning more than 6), I'd say Zook did as much with them as could be done.

Kentucky fans need to be smarter than Illinois fans. Accept that the Stoops years are basically as good as it can get, and if you fire him you will be extremely lucky to just tread water. To have a coach who is taking the program as far as it can go, and shows no signs of leaving, that's a treasure.

Yes I would agree with this 100%
