One just entered the portal today. This copied from 247Sports:

"The NCAA transfer portal has been extremely active since the 2018 season concluded, with a handful of Florida players already entering their names.

Wide receiver Daquon Green transferred to Murray State, along center T.J. McCoy transferring to Louisville as well. on Monday morning, WatchStadium.com College football insider Brett McMurphy reported that Florida linebacker Kylan Johnson has also entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal and will be looking for his next home. Swamp247 has since confirmed that report that Johnson entered his name today."

Yep those other LBs probably fit with what they want more. He will probably play decent wherever he goes.

The off-season coming and going is in full swing now.

Good transfers imo - those guys weren't seeing the field and really didn't add quality depth. They go elsewhere and can play - need another 3-4 of these imo.

I would like to see a rule set up where if a player is being "asked" to transfer, they could opt to come completely off the roster and the count but have their scholarship continue so they can graduate. Of course, if they make that choice it's irrevocable and they lose all eligibility.

I thought Johnson played well for us and would have added quality depth.

While that is very true, he is good enough to go elsewhere with less depth than the Gators now have and be a starter, which might help him move on to the NFL after next season. Good luck to Kylan wherever he lands...

GBO,

Have to agree, they came to UF to get on the field & play. For whatever reason, it isn't working out so hopefully, they find greener pastures elsewhere.

In a case like this, where parting is by mutual consent, I would like to see transfer restrictions lifted & these players given instant eligability.

IMO, removing all transfer restrictions for students, is where we are headed. A coach who changes schools doesn't have to sit out a year - no non-compete clause, why should the student athlete ?

"...Need another 3-4 of these." - also agree.

NOTE -
"...Florida (by another website’s count), is at 86 total scholarships with the departure of Johnson and the addition of the 2019 recruiting class. It’s not a violation because Florida won’t have all of the 2019 recruiting class on campus, thus wouldn’t be over the limit when spring practice starts. However, Florida would need to be at 85 scholarships by the start of fall camp."

Also need space for Parker Braun - OG or C. Replacing 4 starters on OL from today's UF depth chart a real crap-shoot. Adding Parker would help a lot !

Linebacker/defensive end Jon Greenard from Louisville mentioned in article, so I assume (hate using that term) that he was accounted for in scholly totals.

Not critical now, but all 5 of our incoming PWOs look good & having a goal (full scholly) to motivate & bring out their best is important.

GO GATORS !!

gbo, at what positions do you see a need for grad-xfers or JuCO's?

Other than an OLineman/two this year and the DE we already got - maybe a true DT...so not much.

I like the fact that Mullen only brings in a transfer if they are playing this year, either as a starter or in the 2 deep. He trusts that he's recruiting and developing the right guys so if we need someone to play THIS YEAR, he'll bring them in. He's assuming he'll have guys in place the next year via the recruiting efforts.

Dan's 2020 class will flex and develop over the coming months.
Everyone should just relax, as ESD and NSD are still a long way off.

Feb 2nd - Gators land commit from:
#6 WDE Johnnie Brown 6-3 250 **** 5.8 178/250 - Tampa, FL

Feb 15th - Gators land commit from:
#17 WDE Morven Joseph 6-4 220 *** 5.7 - Lakeland, FL

Feb 20th - Gators lose commit from:
#25 WDE Josh Griffis 6-3 220 *** 5.6 - IMG Bradenton, FL
He got an offer Friday from FSU. (IMG/FSU)
While it's unlikely he'd start for UF as a tFr, he prolly can at Clown-U... :D

With the Gators current quality/depth at DE/OLB, I'm fine with that swap-out in commits. ;)

5 Star #3 RB Bowman 16/100 visits and becomes a strong lean. o_O
Then 4 star #7 RB Keyvone Lee **** 161/250 de-commits, but keeps the UF door open.

#6 QB Beck **** 5.9 visits and becomes a strong lean. o_O
Then 3 star #13 QB Richardson de-commits, but keeps the UF door open.
===========

Those that really want to be Gators, that feel like they can and want to compete, will eventually sign a LOI. While those that don't will eventually become just more Gator-bait.
