About that, Mussolini was a national socialist before he created fascism. Hitlers vision of a master race conflicted with Mussolini's vision of Fascist Italy on two fronts, the first being the Italian Jews were fully integrated into society and had cemented that relationship with extraordinary contributions during WW1. The second was that Hitler believed only Northern Italians were Aryan, Southern Italians being mongrelized by integrating with Mediterranean races, read brown people, whereas Italians with the exception of Sicilians held no such odd distinctions about themselves as the descendants of Romans. Yet I'm constantly mocked for saying fascism is a leftist ideology, because apparently everyone knows when a former national socialist rises to power they immediately go hard to the right.
