Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

They are pretty loaded at LB for now. He prolly wasn't gonna be a starter in the Fall, so with little time left, he wants to go where he might be able to be a starter.

ILB
Justin Pelic 5-11.25 222 rsSr
Mannie Nunnery 6-1.25 227 rsSr - Houston xfer
-----
Derek Wingo 6-1.25 242 Sr
R.J. Moten 6-0 230 Sr - Mich xfer
-----
Shemar James 6-1.25 230 Jr
Deuce Spurlock 6-0.5 232 rsSo - Mich xfer
-----
Jaden Robinson 6-0.25 233 So
Grayson Howard 6-4 235 So - SCa xfer
-----
Myles Graham 6-0.75 222 Fr
Jake Xeller 6-2.25 239 Fr

No big loss for the Gators, so I wish him well elsewhere....

Wish him well, and I think he will do well. But I agree he was most likely a backup.

Yeah, we got depth at backers, which we haven't had in years.

While QB-dt DJ Lagway 6-3 241 Fr may run a little bit on called roll out RPO's or pressure scrambles when he's in the games for a series for two in the fall, he won't be running the ball very much in the iG's OHO, and here's why. Tx HS 6A Sr Lagway's Maxpreps stats:
Passing - 72.1% for 4,631 Yds, 58 TD's (a Tx 6A single season record)
Rushing - 99 for 975 Yds, 9.7 YPC, 15 TD's.

1. The Gator Offense and it's HC/OC play caller don't use a QB-dt running the ball much if at all. It's more of a pro-set offense with mostly short to intermediate passing and the RB's running the ball, in the iG's oho.

2. Lagway is the rather obvious future QB starter for the Gators, as soon as Mertz no longer is,,, whenever that happens to be.

3. With this excellent big/fast and deep RB room, DJ shouldn't need to be taking injury chances running the ball. So unless the game goes South badly and they desperately need to change things up, DJ won't be doing much running....

Cam Carroll 6-0 227 rsSr
Montrell Johnson Jr 5-11.25 213 Sr
Ja'Kobi Jackson 5-10.5 218 rsJr
Treyaun Webb 5-11 215 So
Jaydan Braugh 6-0.75 237 Fr (HS Ath WR-LB-S)
K.D. Daniels 5-11.5 196 Fr (HS QB)
Anthony Rubio 5-9 180 rsFr - PWO

Trebor Etienne 5-9 205 Jr -- Gonzo drama-queen, and good riddance imo,

It seems the RB and LB units are the strengths of the team now with QBs solid and the rest of the position groups questionable on the whole.

There's another room that's looking pretty good to me right now...

WR Eugene Wilson III 5-10 181 So (small)
WR Kahleil Jackson 6-3 215 Jr (large)
WR Chimere Dike 6-0.25 195 Sr (medium)

WR Marcus Burke 6-3.75 193 rsJr (large)
WR Ja'Quavion Fraziars 6-3.5 218 Sr (large)
WR Andy Jean 6-1 191 rsFr (medium)
WR Aiden Mizell 6-1.5 182 rsFr (medium)

With 2 Fr (smalls) that might be EW-3 Light with Flash speed.:
#37 WR Jerrae 'Tank' Hawkins 5-9.5 170 Fr **** - WVa via IMG - 4.25/40
#41 WR Tawaski 'TJ' Adams 5-10 197 Fr **** - Ft. Myers, FL - 10.62 100M

With several others that could surprise and step up for the coming season:
It seems that Mizell & Hawkins will compete for the KR job on ST's.
It seems to me that there is decent depth/quality in the WR room for next season.

The Current OL 1-2 Depth Chart for 2024:

LTE Hayden Hansen rsSo ----------------------- Tony Livingston So

LT Austin Barber rsJr ----------------------------- Devon Manuel rsJr / xfer

LG Knijeah Harris So ----------------------------- Christian Williams rsSo

OC Jake Slaughter rsJr -------------------------- Rodrick Kearney rsFr

RG Damieon George rsJr / xfer ---------------- Bryce Lovett rsFr

RT Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson rsSr / xfer -- Kamryn Waites rsJr / xfer

RTE Arlis Boardingham rsSo -------------------- Keon Zipperer rsSr

OL Zandamela signed with USC Dec 20, 2023 and enrolled at USC Jan 15 2024
-----
He has since flipped to xfer to UF on May 2, 2024.
Now you can add in quality depth at OG/OC Jason Zandamela 6-3 306 Fr ****

He is a former rugby player that spent much of his youth in Mozambique before moving to the United States. He is still relatively new to the game of football, but is quickly figuring things out after starting at center as a junior for Clearwater Academy International.
He will likely need to redshirt imo...

I hope all these high quality position "rooms" translate into wins in the fall. When your team only has 1 player drafted by the NFL, that says volumes about the level of talent that has been brought to the program over the last 3+ years. It seems like it's changing for the better, but results need to start showing up on the field.

Napier will field his most talented team he's had this year. But personally, I have zero confidence that it will translate to more wins. He just hasn't shown he's good on game day.

I have the same concerns - add in a potentially brutal schedule and we could be better this year, a fair amount better, and still look at a 6 win year, or hell worse lol. I like everything BN says - now it is time to win.

For a total of 64 Out-gong Transfers since Napier arrived (22-23-24).....
Maybe the xfer-outs affected the position depth charts just a little bit?

I guess the key question is this:
How many were invited and/or encouraged to leave, and how many said 'Ph..... this place' and bailed-out on their own???
Either way, the 2024 team is virtually ALL Billy's guys now....

Hard to tell which were asked to leave but it's apparent none outside of Hopper we're all that talented.

I think I saw only 1 transfer, Hopper, was drafted of everyone that left. Speaks to Mullen's recruiting really being terrible.

Dan's classes were all higher ranked with 4 and 5 stars in the classes???

No wide open xfer portal to draw from.
No NIL $$$ to draw in recruits.
No 60+ staff to help get it all done.
With 2 years of a Scamdemic with the Socialist-U Admin.....

But with all of that past BS aside, like most Gator fans, I'm still hoping that Billy-Nap,,, can wake up and get it done....

I was just thinking the other day that Dan might now be perfect for college. Just plug him in at a place with plenty of NIL and force him to get a good D coordinator - could be good to go.

Mulln's classes were actually awful. Go back and look at how many of his recruits stuck and made it to the nfl. Napier is an awful game day coach. Doubt that turns around. There is a reason nobody has tried to hire mullen. He would be an excellent NFL offensive coordinator.

Not sure why Insta loves to hide the fact that Mullen's classes ended up dropping 3-5 spots well after signing day. One of reasons is they fail to qualify academically.

Going off memory but the typical Mullen class was about 10-12ish. Then you'd have like 3 of your top 6 not make it to campus or get let go freshman year.
Mullen has 2 crazy offenses and one of them has a decent defense. His recruiting was not good, great XO guy on offense and a great play coaster but in way over his head at UF as the head coach.
