The fact that he shot himself is interesting. Also none of his children attended his funeral???

Sounds like he did do some things right. He made his "team" come together...they came together out of mutual hatred for him. That is, or at least was, a common military training tactic. But he also pushed them.

However, with the way his life turned out...it sort of sounds like his men had the right idea about him. Also, it sounds like he would have gotten them killed in battle whereas Winters led them to victory.

I think the biggest thing is....Anyone can be an ass hole and push people through physical fitness and discipline. Saw plenty of that in my day. However, many of those types are also horrible leaders, bumbling idiots, and have no respect from their men/women, and those men/women worry that type of person will get them killed...Hence the comparison to Joe biden=Captain Sobel. Both are bumbling idiots put in a leadership position despite obvious shortcomings of not being able to lead through even the most simple situations under stress.

Real leaders, inspire people to do things they normally wouldn't do. They Command respect and not demand it. Col. Winters.
