We have had 20 years of relative peace here in America. AQ has been hobbled and ISIS was purged out of Iraq. If the goal was a democratic Afghanistan it was botched early when we allowed them to incorporate Islam into their constitution. But a relatively quiet place where the locals in Kabul were slowly modernizing well that was happening. I am all for another 20-30-40-50 years of killing those b@stards over there and having it nice here.
We trained the AA the way we do things, meaning they know how to call in air strikes when in battle. Without CAS the AA was never going to be able to defeat terrorists who would go slaughter the families of those fighting them, pulling contractors who repaired their aircraft was the end of that.
To defeat the terrorists aka Taliban you gather intel as they try to govern. Then in the dead of night your special forces assassinate them. You return to base and plan the next mission. Rinse and repeat.
That would be the case had they fought and lost, but the vast majority of the time they just didn't fight at all.
IMO the failure is one of leadership, starting with us. When Biden and his generals all admit that the Afghan government will fall, why would the soldiers fight? What does it matter to them if the Taliban will take over in 3 months, 18 months, or next week? They've all seen the Taliban execute the soldiers who fought, and spare those who surrendered without a fight. Why would they choose to fight, lose, and die, as opposed to surrender, lose, and live?
Moving on next, who are they fighting for? When your commander-in-chief just skips town without even a whimper, why would you fight? I mean, even Saddam had Bagdad Bob try to inject some positivity, Ghani didn't even try.
If I took this philosophy I would’ve given up trying to get some of these chuckleheads Vaccinated, yet here we are weeks later with success

While I can't speak for all Dems, I think most Dems believe Trump cost us more lives than 12 every single day with his handling of COVID.

I was trying to find an article or interview I saw that said that upwards of 50,000 AA troops have died fighting while we’ve been there training them to fight, if that’s the case, yeah don’t know how much desire most of them have to fight. Crazy that with American fight attitude that 3% actually fought for our freedom!
We had about 2500 troops and had created a stable area and pushed the 8th century troglodytes to the fringes of a fringe country with very little loss of American lives.
We have twice that many in Qatar.
That said, I have two good friends who are forever damaged from that place - one mentally and one physically. I get the argument to pull out. But the way Biden has botched that we are going lose much more than we should have.
Regardless we were always going to have a Taliban owned country and that is going to lead to a massive increase in Islamic terrorism around the world. This is probably why liberal leaders like Obama added troops after promising to get us out.

But I don’t have to tell you what he’d do because he already did it. Less than 5 days after he made the deal with the Taliban in March they attacked the ANA and he dropped bombs on them. He then called our best guess at the leader of the Taliban and told him he’d kill his village and his family if they violated the agreement again. So Biden is blaming Trump for an agreement that Trump himself didn’t adhere to. Let’s also not forget Trump’s deal was May 1…so Biden is lying again, there was no “Trump deal” left. This was Biden’s deal and he thought he’d be spiking the football for ending the “endless war”.
Trump certainly wouldn’t have abandoned Bagram Air Base just because the Taliban asked him to. That was a fortified military institution with two airstrips 1000% under our control with a prison full of ISIS’s worst. Under Biden’s orders we bailed and left it to the Taliban so we could try to secure a commercial airport in a city of several million people…great idea, it’s an idea that’s made it impossible to get our people out and protect our troops.
So that’s how I know Biden won’t do anything - he wants no conflict, he won’t let our troops fire a shot at these thugs. He’s trying to negotiate with terrorists and that outcome is very predictable.
