Is there really an NFL team stupid enough to waste a draft pick on any of these opt out players ?

Undrafted Free Agent - maybe !

Doubt they are in football shape & as Dan Mullen says " no current tape/film" to show NFL

See if you recognize / remember any of these players -
  • RB Kennedy Brooks, Oklahoma
  • S Paris Ford, Pittsburgh
  • RB Kenneth Gainwell, Memphis
  • RB Javian Hawkins, Louisville
  • RB Kylin Hill, Mississippi State
  • S Jevon Holland, Oregon
  • CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina
  • OT Walker Little, Stanford
  • WR Terrace Marshall Jr., LSU
  • QB Jamie Newman, Georgia
  • DT Levi Onwuzurike, Washington
  • CB Asante Samuel Jr., Florida State
  • DT Tyler Shelvin, LSU
  • OT Rashawn Slater, Northwestern
  • WR Sage Surratt, Wake Forest
  • LB Joe Tryon, Washington
  • RB Pooka Williams Jr., Kansas
Truth is stranger than fiction -

"...COLLEGE STATION — Two of Texas A&M’s players who opted out of playing this season have opted back in — senior cornerback Elijah Blades and freshman linebacker Ke’Shun Brown.

A&M coach Jimbo Fisher and the three seniors available Monday for media interviews all said they welcomed back the duo to the program."

Jaycee Horn & Terrance Marshall Jr will be drafted. I honestly don’t know too much about most of the others on that list.

IMO, the lucky ones - possibly including Jamie Neuman - are 6th or 7th round draft picks; all the rest are undrafted free agents - maybe !

Think a lot depends on how NCAA structures the "return to school" option & how many seniors take advantage of it.

From the perspective of an NFL team, drafting a player in the late rounds has a low cost & teams will use all their picks looking for the "hidden gem."

Undrafted Free Agents even cheaper; teams will invite a lot of them to camp. NFL may create special 1 yr rules for roster size.

Unless they have a legitimate chance for the Super Bowl, NFL teams always looking to replace expensive - high salary - veteran players with low salary rookies who are "almost as good."

Asante, who played most of this season, MAY be the exception.

I do agree that if a player opted out of the entire season.... Its not a good look for them and i wouldnt draft them
